Hi! My surgery was yesterday and I only started sipping Water and watered down juice today. My dr made me drink from medicine cups. I feel it goes down very weird. It like bubles or something, I can’t explain it but it hurts a bit. I had to take liquid norco a few hours ago for my headache and that really hurt as it was going down:( anyone else have or had this problem when they first started sipping liquids? Also, on top of all my gas my stomach keeps growling as if it is hungry lol. My head isn’t hungry at all though🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Congrats on your surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

The weird feeling and pain from swallowing is because of the swelling in your stomach. The nice smooth "tube" that you saw in pictures pre-op is what your stomach will look like after the swelling goes down. But, right now, it's a lumpy-bumpy swollen mess that liquids find a way to trickle through. The worst swelling goes down pretty quickly and you should start to feel better soon. Good luck!

Also, lots of grumbling and gurgling goes on for a while post op as you heal and as your new tummy gets used to processing liquids and food again, but it isn't regular "hungry tummy" type grumbling. You may also sometimes mistake excess stomach acid for hunger, which often happens an hour or so after you eat/drink something.

That said, some people do get genuine hunger very soon after their surgery, which will reduce as you start getting more calories in and progress to more substantial foods.

Four months in and my stomach is still very grumbley and noisy. This is just a new reality post sleeve.

That's interesting, especially since our surgery date is similar. I have found that mine only makes noises when I feed it something it doesn't handle well. i.e. solid Proteins - lots of gurgle and churn. Yogurt, Soups, etc. - quiet as a mouse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
