Sick of Protien Shakes!!! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I was banded Oct 16.:clap2: Am doing great but I'm sick of the Protein Shakes and most Protein Drinks in general! Those fruity ones too. My Dr. says I should shoot for 70 grams of Protein per day. Since I am still in the "mushy" stage I am having a hard time hitting the 70 gram mark without a Protein Drink. Any ideas? I am supposed to drink 3 whey shakes a day, yuck!:help:

I know this may not sound like a gourmet meal, but I got SO sick of sweet stuff when I was at that stage of my diet. I decided I'd try something different, so I put a cup of cottage cheese and a cup of Tomato juice in the blender, whizzed it up, and VOILA! A Protein shake that is savory instead of sweet.

Funny, I never realized how much Protein there is in cottage cheese until I started looking for alternatives to protein shakes.

Also, there is an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand unflavored protein, and they also make a chicken broth flavored Protein Powder. I haven't tried them, but there are many on this site that swear by Unjury.< /p>

I personaly LOVE the unjury ones. The unflavored I add to cottage cheese, yougart, Soup, smoothies, mashed potatoes.

What I do is measure out a scoop or 2 and bring it with me and add a bit at a time to different food. so I get the whole amount of Protein just not all at once.

I know many people love unjury. I was one of the few that hated it unfortunately. Here is a list of some of my favorite Protein boosts.

The low-carb version of Slimfast with a little Nestle's Low-Carb chocolate powder stirred in to boost the flavor. Sometimes I'd even add a tablespoon or two of half and half. I know it added calories but with a daily total of 500-800 calories a day at the time I figured an extra 80-100 calories wouldn't hurt. This tastes best ICE COLD.

Someone else mentioned Cottage cheese. I agree it is a GREAT source of Protein with an even better protein to carb ratio than TOFU. Warming it up with some Ragu and Parmesean tastes pretty good. Kind of like the cheesy filling from lasagna.

Another great use for the Cottage cheese is in puddings. I know it sounds gross but it actually tastes good. You take the cottage cheese and run it through the blender until it is completely smooth. Adding a little skim milk (or water) if you need to thin it down a bit for your blender to handle. Then you use it in place of milk when making any flavor of sugar free pudding. My favorites were chocolate (with a 2 - tablespoons of Peanut Butter added) Lemon pudding or Cheesecake Pudding. With the cheesecake pudding I'd sometimes add just a little pureed strawberries on top. The Cottage cheese just gave the pudding a more creamy taste like they had been made with whole milk instead of skim. Then I'd put them in the freezer for about 1/2 hour and stir to the consistency of soft serve ice-cream.

I also used the pureed cottage cheese around the holidays as a substitute for 1/2 the sour cream it calls for in making those powdered chip dips.

I had the same problem. I hated Protein shakes so much. I would literally gag anytime I consumed something with Protein Powder in it. I called my surgeon and primary MD overseeing the process and they said:

Plain non-fat yogurt with a few frozen blueberries for taste and blend it up really good adding skim milk to thin it out. 1 8oz serving had 10+ g pro. and tasted so good.

I was also told to try Ocean Spray Protein smoothie (in produce section at grocery store) 130 cal, no fat, 10g pro per serving. And lastly I was told I could have 1 Bolthouse brand protein smoothie per day (so good!!!) I love the mocha flavor! Also 10g of protein per 8 oz.

If it wasn't for these things, I wouldn't have made it. I have a sensative gag reflex and my body was rejecting any type protein powder.< /p>

Good luck. You can Private Message me if you'd like to chat more about this.

Away from the shakes..

Pork rinds have decent protein..

The canned meats I have found (ham, chicken, turkey) have a decent to large amount of Protein in them.

I put Bene-protein in my coffee cream and mix it till smooth, then add it to my coffee. It has no taste, and the lumps do come back due to heat, but you can't feel or taste the lumps, so you just don't wanna look at the coffee :D

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
