New ~ just started my journey

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone ~ my name is Gina and I live in Ky. I have just recently started my lapband journey. My insurance will pay for my surgery 80% but of course my primary physician has to send my medical records and a letter stating that the lapband is medically neccessary. My insurance then takes my record before a medical board and reviews it to determine if they will pay for it. This can take 30 days. My doctor sent all this out yesterday evening ~ YaY. But now I'm so nervous, I'm so afraid they will turn me down. Like I told my husband ~ if they approve it then in the long run I would actually save them money because the surgery will help with a lot of my medical problems. Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling, I am just so excited and nervous all at the same time lol. Thanks for reading though!!

Hi Gina! I am new to the site, not yet banded but starting on my journey as well. I wish you luck. My insurance is an 80% deal too but I am not sure of the details just yet. I have my inital consult with the surgery center on Friday. They advertise that they do all the work to get you approved. I sure hope that ends up being true. Have you already found your surgeon? I found mine from reading these threads. I am sooo glad I found this site.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
