Dr. Gonzalez Support Thread

It's my first night back to work after having a friend visit this past week. I did get on the scales after she left and Oh-Boy, I didn't think I ate THAT bad. ~LOL~ Maybe the 2 pound gain was all the food I ate while she was here. Ya think? I had forgot that most people eat by the clock so I found myself eating my food, then eating again when my friend had a meal. So I'm back on track starting tonight. I brought my food to work and promise to throw the rest of the cheese crackers out when I get home in the morning. There really is a lot to say about planning meals and keeping the temptation stuff out of the house.

I'm feeling better. The pain around my band is almost gone. I will be going to see Dr. Gonzalez next Tuesday to see if the swelling was saline from my band. I don't even want to think about the darn thing leaking. Wouldn't that be the pits?

Positive thoughts, positive thoughts....

Judy

Judy, there isn't enough Fluid in the band to cause swelling in the abdomen, so I don't think leakage from the band is plausible. What I an trying to say is that all 10ml of fluid could leak out and you would not notice it. Love cindy

Brenda, how was the doctor appt?

I have an enlarged left kidney, and the veins leading to the kidneys are occluded (don't know what is causing it, could be plaque). My filteration rate is 47%. I see the Neprologist again in two days.

Hopefully your band isn't leaking. It's hard to see a weght gain when you've been working so hard. But I find that if you get right back in there it comes off along with some new off pounds

I guess if my own sister tells me leakage wouldn't cause swelling, I tend to believe it. Maybe I was feeling my band and all the poking made me a little sore. Who knows.... but I'll have Dr G check me out on Tuesday.

Sunshine: I am so concerned about you. Please let us know what the doctor says and I'll send some extra prayers your way.

Anyone going for surgery or a fill on Tuesday, Jan 29th? If so, Cindy and I will be there about noon and would love to meet you! I'm pretty sure our mother wants to go but I'm a little concerned about her walking across the border. She has advanced arthritis and has already had one ankle replacement. She's a hard lady to keep down and I'm sure she'd do ok but it's still Mexico. Anyway, I hear she has her passport ready and her walking shoes shined. It should be fun.

I'm working overtime tonight so have to get ready to head out the door. I hope everyone is doing ok and seeing results. I know I am.

Hugs,

Judy

We had another great visit with Dr. Gonzalez. I don't have an infection but Dr G could feel some slight swelling. He asked in his most charming manner because my mother was standing right there, if I was sticking to my diet. Well.... uh.... uh..... I have been having some problems with meat getting stuck. Maybe I'm not chewing well enough? But sweets still go down nicely so I find myself having a little treat every few days. Not good if I want to lose weight, huh? So I've been having more Soup and soft foods the past 2 days and haven't had any pain. I made meat loaf and mashed potatos tonight so I'll take the leftovers to work the next 2 nights. Good thing I don't mind leftovers.

My folks decided to go to Mexico with us and it was an experience! Mom actually did pretty well but my 82 year old father almost got himself in trouble at the border. He suffers from diabetis and gets a little hostile when his blood sugar is off. First he got in to it with some guy who was trying to pass us as we stood in line at the border. When it was our turn the border guard asked if he bought anything in Mexico, and Dad said "I don't think so". Cindy and I looked at each other and Cindy said "We had a doctor appointment", afterwhich I said to Dad "You didn't buy anything" (because he forgets). The guard snapped at me and said "I was talking to him!" Well, as much as my Dad is forgetful these day, he gets very upset when anyone talks harshly toward his daughters. Dad was visibly upset at the guards tone of voice and said (rather loudly) "I said NO and I'm looking right at you!!!" {{{Big gulp!}}} He may as well have added "YOU BIG JERK!" Fortunately, the guy didn't react and let us go by. I had visions of Dad being dragged into the interogation room! ~LOL~

While we were there, we met 3 girls who were in for fills but didn't subscribe to this board. Now they know about the website and may be joining the ranks. They had nothing but good things to say about Dr Gonzalez and staff.

Cindy got a good fill but I'll let her tell you about it. Finally she knows what I've been talking about when I say "restriction". ~LOL~

Hey, Judy, I sure know that one..I swear every meal I ate yesterday came up on me (super PB) At Breakfast I noticed that the first to come up was very well chewed, but the last to come up was Not chewed well at all. That is obviously how it went...the first bite I swolled damn near whole then the others I chewed up really well. But, my band says 'no good' and sends everything up until that first badly chewed bite finally comes up. It seems that the rest of the day PBing went on because I should have reverted to liquids. It seems that my band reacts before anything has a chance to get stuck. Today I'm being more careful.

I like your dad. Some of Those damn guards can be power freaks and love the control they have over people. But your dad's not gonna take no flack from some young whipper snapper :frown:

They REALLY are good people. My Nephrologist asked for my medical records from my banding surgery. I emailed Laura and she got them right together and is mailing them right to me.

Cindy got a good fill but I'll let her tell you about it. Finally she knows what I've been talking about when I say "restriction". ~LOL~

Judy

Yea, restriction has to be experienced before you really understand it.

Really great to hear that you are OK.

I can tell you what I paid if you like. I paid $7500 for the new innamed lap band. This included the sugery, doctor, anesthesiologist, pre-op labs, cardiologist evaluation, dietitian evaluation, overnight stay at the surgical center ( which was a very nice place, it overlooked the golf course), all medications (except antibiotic for home), and the best was all fills by Dr. Gonzalez that I need. It was really a good experience for me and I think I am a good judge because i am in the business. Hope this helps, let me know any other questions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
