Aetna questions....any insurance question

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I will be starting a new job the 1st week of June and at the beginning of July, I will be able to sign up with Aetna insurance through my new job. I was given information that Bariatric surgery is covered under the plan and that there are 3 consecutive months that I will have to be on a physician-supervised plan. This week I went to see my PCP so that she could start me on a plan, thinking that the insurance company will take the documentation when the surgical center submits the paperwork. Also, I made an appointment with the surgical center but they cant get me in until the end of next month. ***So,that's why I opted to start the plan with my pcp. Am I moving to fast? Will I still have to go more than 3 consecutive months being that I do have the insurance yet (Will my 3 consecutive months start when I start on the insurance plan, only?)? Is it ok, to move ahead with the nutritional plan? Must I wait until I have the insurance? Any advice is needed.

Thanks!

I don't know about your particular plan, but my Aetna has a 6 month requirement. I had already been seeing my pcp, endocrinologist, and a dietitian for 2 months for weight loss before my initial bariatric consult and was told they wouldn't count. I had to start from that point. Yours may be different, that was my experience.

My insurance, Anthem BCBS, requires that the visits and nutritional visits be done through the surgeon who is doing the surgery. Just my experience though. Good luck!

Thanks. I think it is 6 months if I’m just going to a pcp and 3 months if I go through the surgeon. I may have to just wait until the end of next month for my doctors appointment. I will call them Monday to get a definitive answer.

My WLC has a strict 6 month rule no matter what my insurance has to say. My insurance dose not have a waiting period but my doctors are good and I wanted to go with them. I am glad I will have this 6 months to change my eating and get into my exercise routine.

I have Aetna and did the 90 day regimen. Your weigh-ins should start at the surgeons. Also each weigh-in day at surgeon or weight loss center will be combined with a nutrition visit so you knock out 2 birds with one stone...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
