Hi, All!

I am 4 weeks post-op and my doctor has removed the 25 lbs lifting restriction! I am super excited. I am ready to run a marathon.

OK, just kidding. However, I do have the problem of thinking I can still exercise like I did when I was in the military over 20 years ago. I want to jump into cross-fit or rock climbing or whatever.

I do walk my dog twice a day, for at least a mile. We have to avoid the smaller dogs he wants to eat. My neighbours would be most upset if their pets wound up as his meal.

What did you start with for exercising? (Apparently, I decided it would be a good time to move during recovery.....does that count as exercise?)

This entire post had me smiling :) First, you should ween yourself back into exercise so as not to send your body for a total spin.

Walking a dog can be a great exercise, unless your walking my dog who literally stops every five feet to cower from some anxiety causing event, like a moving leaf, a flying bird that comes within 200ft, or a car driving past the road, or good lord a kitten within her visibility lol!

As for moving... that is definitely expertise... most strenuous! I hate moving.

I started walking, I actually started back to walking about 4 days after surgery. At 6 weeks post op I went back to the gym and started upper body training. Once I got under 200 lbs I decided to start running again. I ran my first 5K this past weekend (8 months post op). I ran the entire 3.1 miles in just under 35 minutes.

Do as much as you can but stay away from strenuous stomach exercises until you are at least 8 weeks post op.

I was mostly impressed that after pre-op diet and the post-op liquid diet, it was your pooch that might eat the wee furry meat ball pups, not you - that would REALLY give your neighbours something to be upset about

i started dog walking. The dogs, a big one and a wee one, love it now I job/walk/jog etc. and so do I, to be honest.

Just take it gently - watch the twinges and progress in steps. This surgery makes you really good at learning to notice and understand all your body’s signals!

I started with walking, elliptical and the bike. But at 2 months out I did an 8 week boot camp. I just listened to my body and was especially careful with any ab work right at first and didn't have any problems. It felt good to push myself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
