Can We Eat Hotdogs???

Recommended Posts

I met a woman today in TJ at Ortiz's office who had a piece of hot dog lodged in her band and could not even keep down Water, they had to go in a surgically remove it and unfill her at the same time

Michelle, I pulled this off of another thread you posted on and wanted to inquire more about it. Funny thing, I was JUST wondering this about an hour ago, especially since this is what my family ate for supper tonight!!!

I remember when I was doing my pre-op stuff for my band, one of the last things my doc's nurse told me was to avoid hotdogs. She was a bandster and had recently eaten one, and had been PBing for a week... obviously with reminents of weiner still in her pouch.

With this horror in my mind, Ive never had the nerve to try one.

And now I hear THIS story.

Does anyone know for sure if weiners are safe for us?

The woman I met today said her problem with the hot dog was that she #1 took too big of a bite and was talking when it went down without chewing it well enough and #2 it had a really thick skin on it...I have had a hot dog and had no trouble but now Iam hesitant to try one since hearing of her horror story.

Hot dogs are a HUGE PB issue with me. I can't eat them at all. I can eat the little smokies ones if I chew and take little tiny bites...but regular hot dogs seem to plug me up immediately. Sausage seems to be fine for me, I think the texture is different.

Be careful with hot dogs- they really aren't worth the risk of Pbing.

Whoa...that is so strange....no, I am so strange. I eat them puppies all the time--well, not all the time, but often. I do tend to chew them a lot. I like the low fat ones that are softer and have softer skins. I guess I won't try those old-fashioned ones with the tough skin. Maybe I'll give them up, too. :ermm

I think the skins are more problematic than the meat, which is no harder or easier to eat than any other kind of meat. (I'll leave the discussion of what's in them for another time.) We definitely want to steer clear of any sausages or meats with tough, chewy skins.

I agree with Jack, I didn't eat them before banding and sure won't eat one now. Since I was a little girl, I've always ordered a hotdog without the hotdog! I love the bun, the chili, onions, and coleslaw, but leave out that nasty dog!

Just so I dont gross anyone out.... I ONLY buy the ones that are all beef/no fillers. I hope they are safer/healthier then the 'others'.

My Doc says no Hot dogs but I did try a bite and needless to say I did pay for it. Since then I have not tried it again.

Hot dogs are definitely a no no for me. Tried it once, won't do it again.

It brought tears to my eyes.........not worth it.

I was banded by Dr. Kuri on 1/13/05. I'm still following his post op diet instructions and on day 18 it lists 2 small hotdogs as a part of a sample meal, but after reading all of these posts NO WAY am I going to eat one. Hey, do they make a Hotdog flavored Jelly belly.... just in case I get a craving...LOL

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
