Pep Talk (shamelessly lifted from another board)

Recommended Posts

I found this on another message board and it is too good not to share, from myfitnesspal, johnwhitent:

Gather ‘round, take a knee, and listen up. It’s crunch time. It’s time to turn this around and grab a win.

But this is more than a game, it’s a battle. You’re in a fight for health and fitness, a fight for your life. Success doesn’t come easy, but is forged from failures. Or more accurately, success is forged from your response to failures. Every setback you experience, every pound you gain or workout you miss is an opportunity to become discouraged and give up, or to grow stronger and continue on the road to victory.

Success is never a nice linear path; everyone has bad days or weeks. But the ones who reach their goals are the ones who persevere. When you pick yourself up and get back on track after a setback, you instill the confidence that you are a winner. You are different - others quit, but you don’t. Those setbacks become the motivation to carry on, to show that you are in this for the duration, that you have the discipline to see this through, come what may.

In a running race, you can’t see the finish line – it’s miles away. But you put one foot in front of the other, knowing that each step brings you closer to that unseen goal. So it is with every meal you eat and every workout you do. The ultimate goal is far off and you won’t always see immediate measurable progress from your daily actions, but victory is made up of many daily choices and small steps.

Millions of people want what you want, but you are doing the work to get it, and you will not be denied. It has a cost. Getting up early on a cold morning and working out while others are snug and comfortable in bed is hard. Passing on the pizza or donuts in the breakroom at work everyone else is eating is hard. Choosing a path that brings discomfort when comfort is readily available is hard. But as they say, if it was easy, everyone would be fit and healthy.

You are on the sure road to health and fitness because you have committed to do whatever it takes to get there. And you will get there. You have accepted the challenge, embraced the pain, and welcomed the denial of temporary pleasure in favor of long term quality of life. You want it a little more than others, and you will reach the goals they will not.

Your sacrifices and discipline won’t win you a medal in the Olympics. You probably won’t be featured on the evening news. But deep within you are a fierce competitor, a winner, and your prize is more valuable than Olympic gold – it is life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
