June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve 6/1 and am recovering quickly! The first couple days were miserable - was wondering if I'd ever feel normal again. But I'm drinking full liquids, waking 10k steps a day, and losing weight rapidly.

Oh good, glad there is hope! I was wondering the same thing since I am post op day three. I have less energy today. My focus is to get the two Protein Shakes in and also 64oz liquids. I want to feel normal again!

Remember, your shakes count toward your liquids goal!

Annie93,

We have the same surgery date, tomorrow is my last shake day and Sunday is Clear Liquids and bowel prep. I am looking forward to surgery just so this pre-op diet can end. I have been starving myself since the 28th. My resting heart rate is now 44. I was finally able to move some more, getting 15,000-20,000 steps in, but then stopped losing weight. My shin splints are almost all the way better, I just have to walk slowly and pay attention to my mechanics, going 2.0 on the treadmill. I know surgery is scary, but I think you are in good hands and will be okay. We can do this together. I report at 8:45am, but my surgery is scheduled for 11:00am. I am assuming they will probably be running late. It is the middle of the night and I just finished a cup of broth hoping it will put me to sleep again...

Today is also my last day on shakes, but I do get to have a regular meal tonight. By regular meal, I mean high Protein with veggies only. Tomorrow is liquids but mine don't have to be clear. I'll be able to have the Protein Shakes. I should be done with surgery by the time you go in. I have to get there at 5:30 and surgery is at 7:30. It might take a little longer because it is removing the lapband, taking out the gall bladder, and then doing the sleeve. There is a posibility that I also have a hernia so it might be four things in one.

What part of Texas do you live in? I live close to Victoria, which is close to the coast.

I am also in great need of hope ! This is my day 4 and i am allowed shakes tomorrow only. And i am not meeting my liquid goal at all. I thought I was doing fine until I realized going to costco and right after grocery shopping was way too much and that I needed a nap. I hope I have more energy starting tomorrow with full liquids / thin purees !

Anyone experience pain in their shoulder and body on the left side after procedure? I read it could be gas

Apparently very common gully90 - the shoulder pain is "referred" pain from irritation (gas or just post-op) of the diaphragm on that side. Gas-x chewables helped some for me.

I’ll use the chewables now

I am having a hernia repair at the same time too. I have had various surgery's before so I am not that worried about the actual procedure. I live in Belton, It is located along I 35 in between Austin and Waco. My surgery is in San Antonio, which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive depending on traffic. I know from these boards that every surgeon has a different pre-op diet, but I think I must have chosen one of the more strict ones. I haven't cheated though, so I am pretty sure my liver is all shriveled up. Also, my dog's are enjoying the rest of my rotisserie chicken (pulled off the bone so I could measure my 4 ounces each day). I don't know how I am going to do on my Clear Liquids, but I got almost everything done today in case I am too tired or in the bathroom all day tomorrow.

The gas pain is real. It was horrible the day of surgery and yesterday. I still have it today, but it is more tolerable. Mine went all the way to my back and up the left side of my neck. It was so bad 😭
My diet today:
4oz propel Water
6 oz Protein Shake made with unsweetened almond milk
8 oz dilute apple juice
1/3 table spoon of cream of wheat with a dash of Splenda
6 oz crystal light and water
6 oz Protein shake made with unsweetened almond milk
8 oz water
1/2 cup prepared cream of chicken Soup with a Prilosec sprinkled in - tasted like ACTUAL food!!

The gas sounds that my tummy is making are crazy! Just furnished the soup, so I will wait an hour to get some more water in. I really hate the taste of artificial sweeteners as of today; had no issues with that prior to surgery.

Amanda403,

I hope you continue the video's, I will be looking for a post when I get my phone back after surgery on Monday. Even if it isn't a video yet, I agree with Frust8, let us know how you and your wife are doing.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
