50% weight loss

Recommended Posts

When they say a patient will have between 50% - 60% weight loss what exactly do they mean... I have never been able to get a straight answer for this question.

Hmmm, I think they mean most people will lose 50% of the weight they were suspose to lose to be at their healthy goal weight.

So for eg. If a person had 100 pounds to lose to get into a healthy BMI, they would lost 50% of their weight, which would be 50 pounds.

There is a statistic out there that banded people lose on average of 50-60% of their weight. MANY, many of us have easily surpassed that.

If my algebra is correct. I have lost about 92% of my excess weight.

Most of us go a lot farther than that. They say 50-60% in the first two years. Well, I've had OVER 50% in the first 5 MONTHS.

My Dr. told me last week that I have lost 29% of my excess body fat thus far. I weighed 224 and their goal for me is 135 with a BMI of 25. The Dr. figured my excess body fat was 89.6. She divided that by my weight lost to date(29/89.6) which came out to .29 or 29% excess weight loss. I am not sure how to figure the excess body fat, but will ask next time I see her.

I am at 41.6% loss to my goal. I've been banded 4 months. It's just one of those averages - I think the docs use it to protect themselves a little bit and to encourage us to do they bypass.

The more motivated people will definetly lose more than the 50% excess weight that they quote you.. The more motivated ones are probably on this board ........ since they took the time to seek out online support!

I think I'm at about 92%, so far

way to go, Chickie!! :)

Thank you!!

You know... If we all keep this up, the average will be way more than 50% before too long!

Way to go everyone!!

I was at 226 lbs, Im 5'4". I now am at 145. I've lost almost 100% of what I wanted to lose and it has been 2 yrs and 1 month since banding.

I just got a fill and it is too tight. Ive been unable to keep any solids down. I think that for me, there came a time when any more fill made me sick. Any less didnt provide as much restriction as I would like. I still have some restriction, but only enough to where I must once again watch calories and exercise, which I should do anyway.

Personally I would be satisfied with 50-60% so that statistic never bothered me. (my goal weight is already higher than what my doctor would like. Who knows, things may change as I lose but I don't have any dreams of being a size 2)

Keep in mind, that statistic includes people who have lost their band due to complications and/or people who never even really gave their band a chance. Some people aren't prepared for all the work you have to put in to be successful. (ie. aftercare, fills, exercise, and dealing with the mental side of things)<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

My doc said a few weeks back 40% in the first six months.

He said the good thing though is that after that point patients "continue" to lose, which is a good thing.

I agree with the comment that we seem to out-number that percentage in that we are utilizing this site and all the information out there to be successful.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
