20 weeks and 4 days post op -I'm a turtle but I'm happy!

Recommended Posts

Me, May 4th. I've lost this weight slower than others but I still like the way I look (not the scale but my appearance) and it's been not even 5 months, well almost. It depends if yo ugo by actual caldender months or whether you count 4 weeks as a month

I had surgery on Dec 11. Today is Mary 4, so my estimation is 20 weeks and 4 days. I've been tinkering at 275, and have gained three or four above that, then go to down 272.. Arggg. but I work out, I weight train too, so I don't know. Day of surgery I was 321. So by that, I've lost only about 46 pounds in 20 weeks, or 5 months , which is pretty slow lol. Having said that, I also lost 23 pounds in the two week period RIGHT before surgery, so I dont know if it's fair to count that. Anyways.. in all, I have lost around 70 pounds.

It is what it is. I am not in a race, I'm in a journey

Here is me today! May 4th, 2018

grats and yes i think the pre op weight loss counts. be proud of all those pounds lost.

About the pace of weight loss, i will just throw out some things to consider.

were you heavy for a very long time? if yes then you most likely have metabolic syndrome.

This leads to a higher base rate of insulin and hyper response to sugars and a slow return to baseline.

For a few weeks try to not consume any calories from 7 p.m to 7 a.m. (or any other 12 hr period)

then try to slowly increase the number of hours from 12 to 14 then to 16 if you can. stop when it becomes a chore because you want this to be easy and fit your life style. Eat your normal meals you eat now during the other hours. It will help is you watch the added sugar and simple carbs because they do the most to spike your insulin. It could take 3-6 months to get your insulin to go down and stay down but when it does the body will start to burn fat. Something it will struggle to do if you have elevated insulin levels.

since you are asleep for most of the 12 hrs the first one is pretty easy and depending on how you feel about Breakfast you could stretch it out to 14.

give it a try and see how you feel and how you are doing in a few months.

good luck

Making great progress, huge difference when looking at the pics. Doesn’t matter how quick you get there, just that you do eventually

Thanks Losebig

I am excited. I hope one day we can meet

I am stuck @ 270's and of course I am weight training too, so I don't know.

Maybe someday, when we get our weight off, we can meet and go to dinner together.

Nevermind. Scratch the dinner ROFL! Lol

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
