Have you had many previous abdominal surgeries? If there is scar tissue in your stomach, your pain could be worse. I recovered very fast and had little pain, my wife on the other hand was in a great deal of pain. However, she had a lot of scar tissue from c-sections and other procedures.

I had liposuction a few years ago but that’s it....but no deep abdominal surgeries.

I'm sorry the rest of my post dropped off into oblivion, don't know if it is recoverable.

Hugely variable between people. I work from home, so I technically took zero time off. My recovery was very easy, and if I had a desk job, I could have gone in 2 days post op.

I took 4 weeks, because I could. I was out doing yard work in under a week. I did get tired around the 3 week mark and took a daily nap for about 3 - 4 days. My nurse said my body was relearning where to look for fuel. I wish I took 6 weeks! I haven't had that much time off in 26 years and it was fabulous.

My surgeons office recommended minimum of 4 weeks, but I took 6 weeks. I'm glad I did. My energy levels didn't return until then. You do need to be careful if you work a desk job to make sure and get up and move every hour. You are at a higher risk of blood clots if you have a stationary job.

I have asked this question as well. I go for surgery on Thursday the 31st and plan on returning to work for half days the following Thursday and then back to full days the following Monday. A lot of people I talked to said with a desk job you will probably be happy for the distraction. I have a desk that I can sit or stand at so I am not worried about being stationary too long. I think everyone's recovery time is unique too; some take longer than others. I am mostly worried about the fatigue.

At 2 weeks post op, I hit a wall energy wise. I got a B12 shot from my surgeon's office, and my energy was back within a day or two. So if you are feeling fatigued, I'd ask about B12, as opposed to just writing it off as a normal part of recovery.

I work at in education (middle school); have had two cesarean sections over 20 years ago. I had my surgery on Wednesday during spring break, was walking laps at the hospital (had to do 20 to be released) and went out of town for a night with my husband on Friday shopping at the outlet mall and got three miles in there. Back to work on Monday and so glad I did. I've had NO problems at work because I am much more scheduled in my eating, whereas at home I tend to have a taste here or there and end eating two bites too much and being miserable.

TL;DR: Surgery on Wednesday; back to work on Monday. Walk, walk, walk!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
