Summer Challenge 2018

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would like to do a weight loss challenge that would run until May 25? I'm not the most organized person, so someone would have to get things together. Anyone up for the challenge?

I know you mean well by offering this kind of challenge, but given that people lose at different rates, it can be demoralizing if you don't measure up in the challenge. To me it rings too much of My 600lb Life and The Biggest Loser: both shows that I loath. Why not offer up some sort of fitness challenge instead? This is something that is more practical for everyone to meet.

No, maybe I wasn't clear enough. You are correct, people do lose at different rates, however, everyone can set their own personal goal of the weight they would like to lose by Memorial day. The challenge is just to offer each other some encouragement along the way.

People in the first three months after surgery....are gonna crush this thing.

People who are significantly overweight are going to have more progress than people who are less overweight.

I get what Matty is saying.

What's the point of offering a "lets do our own program and cheer for each other challenge" at a site where that's essentially the whole point of the board? I think most of us are already doing that:)

I do want to say, however, that I think your enthusiasm is wonderful and it's way cool that you're trying to motivate folks:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
