Moving to next stage of eating

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've loved having this here as a resource I think I'm on it 10 times a day So thanks everyone! :)

I'm now 11 days post sleeve and I've been eating pureed Soup, starting with thin and strained and now fairly thick but still blended, and Protein Shakes with no problem and feel like I could eat solids for sure.

My dietician just sent me my diet sheet for the next 3 days and to my great joy it has boiled chicken and mashed potato. I've been so hungry since the op I'm really excited to eat some solid food! My question is that it seems soon compared to everyone else from what I'm reading online and that concerns me a bit. Did anyone else begin that phase at this stage? Just FYI my programme does seem different to a lot of people's. I didn't do a pre op liquid diet just low calorie until the day before and then I had no food at all

Every program is different, some people leave the hospital on puree. At the end of the day nothing two weeks out is going to damage anything, worst case it causes you some temporary discomfort. My doctor's philosophy is try anything and if it gives you issues, wait before trying it again.

Sounds like soft food stage. I'm sure you are happy to progress into more substantial food. I hope it helps with your hunger. Congrats on your surgery.

Yeah! It's wonderful to move onto real food! Just take it slow.

On the purée stage I can have chicken and fish. I either have to purée it or chew it to the purée stage. I’m chewing it. It takes forever but I think I wouldn’t like the mushy texture of purée.

Well I've been eating food since posting this and I'm relieved to report everything has been great! I'm finding it a big change to eat really slowly. I was never a fast eater but I need to slow it down to the point where the food is going cold! But that's a small inconvenience and I'm so relieved that so far I haven't had problems with anything I've eaten. It's shocking how little I can manage but that's the whole point I suppose! :) All in all it's going great. Xx

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
