Anyone have a HIDA scan? I'm having one monday. The gallbladder ultrasound looked fine but they wanted to do more studies. And my liver showed abnormal tissue on ultrasound....yay(sarcasm)......Anyway, just curious what to expect....Thanks

I'm having one soon too. From what read, it's not much worse than an mri machine. I haven't ever had any sort of contrast injected, so I'm not sure what to expect from that. Please tell us how it goes!

It's super easy. They lay you on your back between two camera heads (so no, it's not worse than an MRI machine-trust me those are bad). They start an IV and they inject a radionuclide (about the same as being in the sun for 30 mins). Then they take pictures as the radionuclide moves through your gallbladder (instant, every minutes, then every 2 mins. etc). And the test lasts about 45 mins to an hour. What they're looking at is to see how slowly or quickly the radionuclide leaves your gallbladder. The longer it takes that means you have sludge or stones. If it moves out within x amount of time (depends on the hospital), then your gallbladder is fine.

Cool Beans, don't have a gall bladder anymore, took mine before these neat tests cam out. I miss out on all the neat things in life, I get the ones where they put a tube in your nose, hand you a glass of Water and say"Now start swallowing, we'll tell you,if we want you to stop" Meanwhile I'm chugging away ,hoping they stop before it extruded out the other end. Bah dump dump dump!😲

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
