Preop EKG not normal!

Recommended Posts

I had my tests done 2 weeks ago and got a call yesterday from the Bariatric coordinator - my EKG came back showing a right bundle branch block. It shows up sometimes in healthy patients but also with cardiomyopathy. Is it dumb that I’m kinda hoping for the cardiomyopathy diagnosis to have better odds of getting approved? I have other symptoms that I’ve just shrugged off as part of being obese - swelling of the feet and shortness of breath.

Has anyone else had the surgery clear up cardiomyopathy?

Wow. I'm sorry about this. ((hugs)) But you do not want cardiomyopathy! :(

Are you following up with a cardiologist?

Are you following up with a cardiologist?

Yes in about 2 weeks

Good. Hang in there. I'm sure they will do an echocardiogram and maybe a stress test. I always have an abnormal EKG. They don't seem concerned and it didn't stop me from having surgery.

I have some other heart issues due to chemo/radiation and they still did surgery. I also have leg/feet/ankle swelling. It's really gotten better with the right meds and the weight loss.

Try not to stress too much until you meet with the cardiologist. I had an abnormal EKG when I was pregnant with my son. That resulted in wearing a heart monitor for two weeks, an Echo, and a scope down my throat. All of that to tell me I only had an atrial septal defect, most likely from birth, but symptoms that were brought on by the excess weight during pregnancy. A block can be caused by this defect, or several other conditions. But from what I remember all of them are either medication or light procedures, but none are life threatening unless untreated.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
