It's been ages since I posted here because I am so far off base it's scary. It's almost as if I am pretending I am not banded! I havebenn going through a great deal of turmoil and work and some with my daughter, since August and it is since then that I have not done anything to lose weight. In fact I have gained about 8 lbs because I eat tons of junk food and whatever goes down easy. I am also afraid I have streetched my pouch. For you newbies - this is what is meant by eating around the band!

I am so ashamed of myself. Here I spent a fortune to purchase this device to help me lose weight and I have done nothing about it. I feel like I have lost all motivation and do not even exercise 10 minutes a day!

I have stayed away from here because I am terrible showing how weak I am and asking for help. I finally called Nancy at TLBC and scheduled a fill for next week, but I know from experience a fill a lone will not do anything.

Any suggestions?

:(

First off, dont beat yourself up. We all go through things that can take us off the path to our goals.

Look at it this way, if you were not banded, how much would you have gained back. I would be willing to bet it would have been more than 8#s.

Pick yourself up, and dust yourself off and if nothing else go get your fill.

I can tell it wasn't easy for you to write this post. So that was a big step in the right direction. Making the appointment for the fill was another step in the right direction. Just keep taking those steps and before you know it you'll be back on the path to losing weight and the scale will be going in the right direction. Good Luck. You can do it!

Just yesterday I spoke to a dietician about these very issues. We discussed the fact that people who eat in a healthy way are not the people getting bands. We are people who have (and continue) to use food for a variety of reasons (most of them emotional). It stands to reason that when life gets stressful, we eat...it's how we cope. Learning new strategies for stress relief and emotions is something that we also have to learn - along with the learning of how to use the band effectively.

Sadly, most of us have invested all of our life savings into what feels like a last resort. When that last resort seems to go awry, we again blame ourselves and old patterns of behaviour and negative self talk starts again.

I too have not done particularly well since having the band put on. I have had times where the guilt and frustration have almost lead me to despair. I have a good friend (and coincidently, my sister) who tells me the truth. She reminds me that I am wonderful (because I am), she tells me that I am going to succeed with my weight loss goals (because she is going to encourage me without criticism), she reminds me that the weight did not come on overnight and it would be best if it didn't come off that way. She tells me that I have already done well and that I am strong and have accomplished so much - in spite of my weight. This is a journey not just a destination.

What we all need is someone to encourage us and remind us of these things.

In my case, because I don't feel any restriction (and have an appointment to remedy that), I have now taken to eating my meals where possible on a bread and butter plate. Sometimes the foods that make it to that plate aren't the healthiest, but I am eating less of what I would have several months ago - this is all good.

I have been discouraged because many of you have rightfully shared your wonderful progress. It just hasn't been as great a story for me. I have been discouraged reading about the success stories only - I thought I was the only one that couldn't get their act together. I'm glad that susan has shared her pain, what a wonderful step forward in allowing others to support and encourage her (and me too).

Susan, I wish you well. I hope in the coming days, you are able to recognize that you are able to do this. You will lose the weight that you want. In the process you will learn some great things about yourself too.

YAAAAA She is back! I have missed you so much Susan! You are a wonderful person and I enjoy your posts very much. As the others have said... pick yourself up, dust yourself off and grab a hand as we all walk down this road together!

Hey, Susan. It is so good to hear from you again. We have all missed your clever and compassionate posts. Give a little of that compassion to yourself-- we go off track for awhile, recognize our folly, and get back on the road.

You can and will do this. We are all behind you, and with you on the journey.

Dear Susan;

Reading your post it was like YOU were reading my mind (& Heart ) too!

I have been eating no so good stuff and not feeling much restriction(2fills) and was beating myself up for stopping at Timmies and getting Cookies.

argh!

I had my 3rd fill today, but stayed for the support group afterwards. What a great motivator that was for me.

You stick it out GF, our motivation waxes and wanes but it will come again...

We are all here for you!!

HUGS

Susan, welcome back... and stay this time! I can't say any more or better than everyone else, so listen to them! Don't beat yourself up. EXACTLY, there's no time limit.

And I'm sure you're not stretched. I think we do our selves more harm than good by reading the 'complications'... I swear I think WAY more often than I should that my band has slipped. Get heartburn? I must have slipped. Weird cramp? Slipped! It drives me nuts. I really need to schedule fluroscopes or Xrays just to set my mind at ease!

Just do your best to get back on track. I do it almost every day!

Just put it behind you and move on, it wont be the last time.

Iv'e done that about a zillion times in the last 2 years. I've just had a great day so far today after six entire weeks of eating very poorly. I've hurt my foot and probably wont be able to run for a while and the thought of that has scared me into action, lol.

You CAN do it!

Susan I am so happy to hear from you. I too have been at a stand still. I went to see Dr. Yau and he told me that I am eating around the band. He gave me a small .5 fill and boy do I feel the difference. We are all in this together and boy can you feel the support and hugs or what. What a great bunch you all are. I am proud to be a part of you!

Just a quick check in today...

I had my 3rd fill yesterday at TLBC I got nancy to put in 1 cc... but it was too much

So she defilled me 1/4 of a cc... PERFECT!!

I could drink my Water and this morning i was TIGHT, but a good tight!

I ate solid chicken for lunch with some celery sticks and carrot sticks.. I ate really slowly but it all stayed in an NO p.b.'s Yeah!

I am back on my TRACK....

We've just all got to keep giving each other a 'nudge' of motivation now and again. We will all go thru it - when we beat ourselves up...

This board ROCKS>:clap2:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
