To Jump or Not to Jump

Ok it is Official

My Fat ass cant jump rope.

3 attempts over last hour before dark and i never got past 3 jumps. Dam how hard can it be if a child does it (lol)

wanted to add 5-10 minutes of jump rope to routine to challenge myself and oh boy did i find a challenge.

well see how long this takes to learn.

My daughter (27) got a real kick out of the fact that the "old man" couldn't jump rope

thats all right i got my revenge she inherited my huge calf's and reminds me all the time that no woman should be cursed with calf's this large (lol)

My whole family has different coordination issues. It takes us longer to put things into muscle memory, but when we do, we tend to excel at it. Don't give up on the jump rope! Just make sure it isn't one of those heavy plastic ones leaving whip marks on your shins...

Even when I was thin as a young child, I never had the coordination to jump rope. As @FluffyChix says, "White men can't jump." BAHAHAHA!

Okay, so I work both Physical Therapy and Urgent Care. I know, an obese sleeve patient in PT, ironic right? However, upon talking with our therapist they said that you are not going to want to do any jumping exercises as it puts too much pressure on your joints until you lose weight. It sucks to have to wait but this can help you not damage your knees or hips. You see a lot of patients post op who strain their joints too much and need replacements. I'm not saying this to deter you but to hopefully offer you some insight. It is no joke the amount of obese patients early in their 30's who are post surgery replacements and I feel that bringing that weight down on your joints in the form of jump roping would just exacerbate the situation. There are many modification's to your favorite exercises that are low impact on your joints. Please be careful!!!!!!

I am afraid how much damage I might have already imparted on my knees.

I know the fear, it can get better with some low impact strengthening exercises, plus to look at the bright side if I do need to get a knee replacement in the future at least they last up to 20 years and I'll be part bionic.

I can never jump again, especially at this weight. I have 2 knee replacements, the thing I miss most? basketball, I was very good in my day, was even on the distict travelling team, no boy cousin even challenged,me to a game of Horse especially after I beat their little scurvy tushies. In my day there were girl rule and boy rule basketball, sure I played girl on travelling but me and my team-ladies, we played boy every chance we got, more fast paced, more fun. Happened to be in a school gym one day with kiddos one day, picked up a basketball shot and made a half-court shot, no net touched. No problemo! Kiddo #2 said "Wow I didn't know YOU could do THAT! Ole Mommy still had it! Score 1 for the Maternal Side!😛👍😛🏀

My mother had a knee replacement. One of the 1% that go wrong, and had to have it again. Later had two rotator cuff surgeries, and a hip replacement. We now call her the "$60,000 Co-Pay Woman"

Give her my love, in addition to the afore- mentioned knees I have a plate and 12 screws in my upper right due to humeral fx, and have had my right, carpometacarpal joint removed in my right thumb, and am trying to resist left shoulder surgery. I start,PT this week to see if it will be any help, for me it is a toss up which, will come 1st, RnY or shoulder surgery? Told my ortho,i will wait no longer than September, almost constant pain which wakes,me up from sound sleep in the morning. Tried sleeping with that arm on a pillow to no avail. So I shall see how fast OSU moves after my April 25th appointment with Dr Kramer at Martha Morehouse Pavilion in Columbus for psych evaluation.😙

We have a trampoline. I’d never jump at my age outside of it! An idea?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
