Just took my first real post op shower - it took so much out of me!

Recommended Posts

So I am 4 days post op, and I just took my first full shower - soap, Shampoo, conditioner... The works! I can't believe how tiring it was! I wonder if a cooler shower would have been easier. I'm currently laying down resting until I feel better. Has anyone else felt the same? How long before I can get out if a shower feeling good?

Yes, the first 3 weeks will feel like that. It is because your body is zapped. I think it is best to take a warm shower and if you have a window, crack it open a little to let the warm air out.

Once you make your way to soft foods, you will have more energy.

Might be a little while. 1 you just came out of major surgery, they don't just call it that for lack,of a better term. 2 hot Water dialated your skin blood vessels so not as much blood got up to your brain and balance centers 3 it's hard to stand up nice and straight, soap and rinse successfully, the fact you've been able to for years might not work 4 Just relax and,be kind to you, it's early days yet. In the long haul of things, you'll b e just fine.[emoji13]

Thanks. I've felt way better than I expected thus far, so this took me by surprise.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
