HELP! I Can’t Pass Gas!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery yesterday. I was sent home today. I have not passed gas since before my surgery. Much less a bowel movement! How long did it take some of you to poot or poop? [emoji51]

I’m walking great. I’m following the diet to the T and I’m drinking plenty of fluids! Help!

Is the gas causing you pain? I didn't pass any until 4-5 days after surgery but, it didn't cause me much pain either.

I took Milk of Magnesia on advice from my DR 5 days post op and had several BM's afterwards lol

I feel gassy but no gas pains. I’m burping ok. But just haven’t passed gas! I don’t want to have to take any more medicine than what I’ve been prescribed: pain meds, nausea meds, blood thinners, and Multivitamins. I would like to give my body as much time to do its thing....but I’m not opposed to giving it a little boost! Lol!

it took me 5 days to go to the toilet.

just remember your intake of food right now is not enough for your body to say 'i need to release this'.

when it feel like it has too, you will get the urge

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
