Very discouraged. Two weeks out and still stalled

Recommended Posts

Stalled at 11 pounds about one week ago. I’m on soft foods. Proteins are between 70 and 90 and calories are around 550. Net carbs are around 30-40. Exercise is 30 min/day. How is it physiologically possible not to lose weight under these circumstances?

I hosted Easter Sunday and didn’t deviate from plan at all. I need to stick with it at this point, I guess.

Yep. Stick to the plan and the weight will drop. Sadly, we don't put it on overnight and can't take it off overnight.

Hang in there.

If you ate more you'd probably start to lose again. Your body thinks it's starving to death and has many evolutionary defense mechanisms in place to keep you from starving to death.

Thanks. I just ate some thinly sliced ham, which is on my surgeon’s soft food list. This is so demoralizing and frustrating.

It's maddening and everyone has been there.

I am doing a sleeve to bypass conversion in June due to Gerd. In the beginning when I would stall I found Water (or lack of) was the problem. When I was conscious of what I was drinking I realized the more I drank the more weight came off. Drink so your body can flush the fat out. See if that works.

How is it possible to think your stalled at just two weeks? You’ve only just began. I was told not to be concerned with weight or even the scale until 3 months & yes I’ve felt like I’m losing at a snails pace but I can’t argue the fact that NONE of my clothes fit anymore at 10 weeks. Hang in there & be patient.

I stall all the time, it's my new normal and I had to realize that weightless is not always a straight line downward like I would have hoped, but the benefit I keep hearing is it gives your skin time to catch up and shrink with you
Be patient and stick to your plan

I got this advice from a coworker who had surgery years ago. I'm stalled out too, even following this suggestion. So I feel your pain and frustration. That said, no matter how much I feel like I'm somehow screwing this up, I'm sticking to it, and to be honest - you're more on the ball than me. You're doing to do great!

Seems like you are doing everything right so just keep doing what you are doing.

I was stalled for 2.5 weeks at 2 weeks after surgery and then one day I just got on the scale and poof! Big drop.

Even at 1 month post op I could barely get in 350 calories, right now Im at 3.5 months and get around 800 calories in a day.

I understand the frustration and fear when you have a stall. I want to reassure you...You are working your program. you are doing nothing wrong. Stalls may happen to you at different time periods of your weight loss. We rarely see anyone have a continuous drop without a plateau/stall.

Somethings to try:

If you are doing the same exercise/activity routine over and over, try mixing things up or increasing the intensity. Increase Protein goals. Increase Water.

I'll probably go insane when I stall. I chart my weight, daily, and do trendline regressions on it, linear, and polynomial. I think I even found statistical deviations whenever I used metamicil for the Water it retains in the intestines. I am an OCD engineer.

Congrats to anyone who has a linear drop in weight.

I stopped weighing everyday or every week. I went to my doctor's office once every 3 or so weeks, and I was guaranteed to lose weight when I went in. It helped my mindset a lot. Try to focus on lifestyle. Your clothes will fit better and better (and then your size will go down). Take your measurements too. The scale is just one tool to measure progress. Don't let it frustrate you--it's too early in the game.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
