Expected timeline with BCBS of MA?

Recommended Posts

I know everyone’s experience varies but I was just wondering what other people’s experience was with this insurance? (BCBS of MA PPO)

They don’t require any certain amount of weigh ins or anything so I’m really not sure what to expect. My initial consult with my surgeon is at the end of the month.

How long did it take for you from initial consult to surgery? How easy/difficult was this insurance to work with?

Thanks!!

Less than 2 weeks from last appointment until scheduling surgery
Good luck!

I had BCBS of MA and it was surprisingly fast. They didn’t have any special requirements beyond what the surgeon wanted and a BMI over 40. I can’t remember the exact time line, but I know I actually delayed my surgery for personal scheduling reasons by about a month, so had I pushed I could have done everything in probably 1.5 months. I didn’t need any specialist work ups (was in good health just obese), so if you need those it could stretch things out a bit depending on scheduling. BCBS of MA was really easy to work with. If you call their services line they can actually send you a packet with all their requirements and expected costs given your specific plan.

loving your username hahahah! i also have BCBS MA PPO so i’m curious to see how long it will take. i’m not looking to get surgery until july if it’s up to me, but now that that’s creeping up i’m getting a bit nervous. hoping i’ll be okay though since other people with this insurance seem to have no issues. let me know how it goes for you!

I am glad to see this as I too have the same insurance but looking to get revision from lapband. I currently have had the lapband since 2005. The doctor performed a endoscopy in which found I have a non functional pouch, Looking for more information on all of this. Really worried as to what is going to happen.

Which hospitals in MA did you all use? I’m currently waiting on my second appt at UMass but wondering if I should
consider any other hospitals?

I also have BCBS of MA and live in NY. The doctor requires me to do 6 months of weigh ins. I think this is so forever!! Anyone can help me please? I’m looking for a doctor that won’t do 6 months. Spoke to a BCBS representative and they said that my policy does not require that!! Someone please help!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
