VSG and Scuba Success!

Recommended Posts

Riding home on a narcosis high! I had a great weekend scuba diving, achieving both my PADI advanced and enriched air diver certification. Best part for me was diving in the ocean again and needing LESS weight because I weigh 50 lbs less than I used to! I call it losing my whale blubber [emoji23] . Much more weight to go but this was a major success story for me! Also I have to sell and replace my wetsuits and BCD (for smaller sizes) and get new ones before my next planned dives (May), worth it not to have to lug around more lead to counteract all my fat buoyancy. I’m sure this story won’t mean much to most but hopefully encouraging to other VSG Divers out there!

Hey there - I am an RNY diver - got home yesterday from a week in Niue diving. Never diving again cos of being both fat and unfit? - THAT was my motivation for surgery and this dive week really showed it was a great decision. I had such a blast!

1.5kg less on my weightbelt, smaller BCD, smaller wetsuit - what a kick. And did you find your air consumption was better? I usually run out well before my regular buddy, but not this week!

Where do you dive?

Hi!

Great pic! The diving looks amazing there, I'm jealous!

I live in Central Florida so we have lots of options here in-state. This past weekend I was diving in Key Largo, we dove on the Spiegel Grove which was great! We will definately be making a return We also did some reefs and another wreck called the Benwood, and a night dive. I've been to several places in the Caribbean and Mexico as well. We are planning to do a liveaboard next year, I am very excited for that!

Yes my air consumption improved as well, shockingly I outlasted both my buddies who are very fit on some of the dives. Before I always dragged them up early!

Happy bubble making.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
