So After months of doctor visits and the like. Got a surgery date for April 30. So in preparation for this lifestyle change. I started to drink Protein Shakes and stop drinking pop. I haven’t been eating as much fried food and less sweets. But I think my body is going through withdrawals. All kind stuff has been happening. Not major stuff but just irritating. Has anyone else had this happen to them before surgery? Maybe it’s just me. My husband had his last year and he didn’t have these kind of things happen to him. Feeling alone.

Never feel alone, you have us and most of us have felt what you're feeling. If hubby didn't complain of these things, either they didn't affect him the same way or men are just wired differently. Don't get me wrong I do love the critters, was even married to one of them for 44 years but they definitely are strange. You ever want to vent come here, been there ,done that ,made it through, and so will you! See-- I wax poetic at times. We're as good as talking over the back fence to neighbors. Yeah and some foods I've always liked don't agree with me anymore, think my body may be telling me something! Happens!

Its perfectly normal for your body to go through "withdrawals" and I put quotations around it because sometimes it probably feels like you are an alcoholic who had his last drink, and other times just an annoying itch to having something bad. Things improve post surgery. Your cravings will lessen, along with your appetite. I gave things up in a very methodical way. I gave up sugar and most carbs first, soda second, and then all caffeine last. Most things post op are too sweet now, so I don't crave sweetness at all. Everyone's different. This surgery is HARD. Every aspect is hard. Giving these things up now will mentally prepare yourself for after surgery.

Welcome to the forum. If you stick around, you'll find 99.999% of everything that happens to you will have already happened to someone else. You are not alone.

If cutting carbs and sugar is in your plan there are definitely physical withdrawals. Look up Keto flu. Push through the discomfort and know it’s just your body craving those things!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
