Whoa...one week post-op check up

Recommended Posts

I am officially off my blood pressure med. I've lost a wee bit over 27 pounds since Valentines day of this year. 16 since surgery a week ago. I've been off metformin since a bit before surgery. I've take ZERO units of meal time insulin since the day after surgery. I don't have to take the long acting at night AND only need to in the morning if my numbers are higher. I seem to be doing really well and they were all very pleased with my progress so far.

So am I! I'm so used to being happy for others that are doing well that I almost forgot about my work and choices paying off. Guys...I just wanna cry. I am finally able to show myself that my choice has been a good one. I used to put myself last...more like pluto the non-planet planet.

I'm so happy I had this surgery. I have a hard time believing it and sometimes feel like pinching myself. It's not the easy way so many ignorant people claim it to be. I am so thankful.

Isn't it amazing how quickly you start to see positive results after weight loss surgery? Feels great doesn't it!? I am only taking 2 medicines now: Remeron for depression and Omaprazole as precaution for stomach acid. Here is what I was taking pre-surgery:

  1. Lantus Insulin
  2. Victoza
  3. Glipizide
  4. Metformin
  5. Losartin (blood pressure)
  6. Baby Aspirin
  7. Remeron

I am amazed that I went from 7 medicines to 2. This should be a significant money savings! It certainly is not easy. This just has a much greater likelihood of being permanent. And that is huge. I like 65% chances versus only 10% the other way.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
