So I am 3 days post op and I don’t feel full I just feel empty. Is this normal? I can eat a whole popcicle in one setting. I am afraid that this shouldn’t be happening. I already have this bad feeling this isn’t going work for me can someone help shed some light on this for me. Thanks

I am 3 days post op too and I feel exactly the same way!! I don’t ever feel full! I feel weird pains and lots of grumbling and I belch a lot. I am starving and want to eat so bad! I was hoping the Protein Shake I had today would help but I drank the whole thing in 30 min and never felt full. I keep trying to listen to my body and recognize cues but nothing is consistent.

You are unlikely to feel full when all you are consuming is liquids. Just wait until it's time for real food . . . you'll be amazed at how soon you feel full and on how little food.

I know it's early for you both, but the first month is amazing for weight loss, generally--although I'm not sure I appreciated that, given how miserable I was the first month. I found that things improved greatly when I was able to eat again, but I'm still, six months out, consuming very small portions. Today I had a banana and a yogurt for Breakfast and an omelet (ham, onion, and cheese) with some rye toast for lunch. I have not been hungry at all today. I may have a Protein Shake for dinner--because I need more Protein.

Hang in there . . . it will work out.

Yeah not eating is really tough. I am way to scared to even try anything but broth or Popsicles but I am ready for the weight loss. It just hurts right now and I am ready to be feeling better. But thank you this helps ease much mind so much.

It'll get better! I didn't start feeling a sensation of fullness til I started eating these soft foods....& I could always eat a whole popsicle! & I can also really eat a lot of Ritas sugar free Water ice...

I’m ALSO three days post-op and I’m having the exact same experience as you two. Clearly, this must be normal since all three of us are having the same experiences. I don’t feel particularly full. I’m surprised by how much I’m able to eat - particularly the Protein shake (still it’s not a lot). And the tummy grumbling is crazy. Let’s all just decide to think positively. :)

I haven’t done a Protein Shake yet. Im only allowed all Clear Liquids right now. But i agree we should all think positively and I want to say congrats to everyone it’s definitely a challenge and I wish all of you nothing but success.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
