Anyone have success with losing weight after having surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I’m new to this forum, I’m now in the research part of my journey. I have pcos. I found out that I had it when I was 19, I’m currently 27. Married and no kids. We have been trying for years but no help. My current weight is 305. My question to you all. Has surgery helped with losing weight? Are you losing fast, slow? Thank you so much.

yes, I lost over 100 lbs with the sleeve.

I know quite a few ladies who have PCOS and have gotten pregnant after having WLS!

Hi. I’m a 66 year old woman. My top weight on surgery day was 268, I’m now 4 months in and I’m down to 217. I’m not complaining about 51 pounds gone. I feel so much better. I had gastric bypass. I would do it all over again. Good luck

Hey there. I’m 35. Start weight 250, current 148. Down 102lbs in 7 months. I also had gastric bypass. It’s been a very rough year as I still can’t eat most of what I was told I should be.. but I’m happiest I’ve ever been!

I am finding that everyone is so different as far as how fast and how long. So many factors. How tall, how active, health problems, gender, age. I know there are people that just don’t make and others take it off and gain it back... and those that take it off and never gain it back... that is the group I want to be in. I don’t care if I take it off slowly I just want it gone... forget all the negative stuff and fight for your life. Surgery is the last resort for lots of us... so yes, we are fighting for our lives. I think we are all worth that fight!

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18. I had to take Clomid at 26 to conceive my first child. I developed Type 2 diabetes at 27, started metformin, and naturally conceived my second child at 29. I am now 45 and have lost 69 pounds; 16 before meeting the surgeon, 41 before surgery, and 12 in the past two and a half weeks post-op. Yes, the surgery helps, and now my period is right on time even though I no longer take metformin. Best wishes on your journey.

Yes. I was sleeved 6 weeks ago and I lost 38 pounds. It hasn't been easy but it's worth it. Oh and I'm 38, weighed 292 at last pre op appointment. Good luck, it's great!

I’ve had PCOS since I was 16. I’m also 27, married and no kids. My husband and I have tried for 5 years off and on. The rate and how much you lose varies from person to person. I’m 4 mons post op RNY. I’ve lost 102lbs so far. But I started out at 332lbs. People with higher BMI tend to loose weight faster but have longer journeys. I’ll need to loose 170 to be at goal. The one thing I know for sure is that if you follow the program and give it your all. Change your lifestyle completely. Don’t succumb to to the slippery slope of bad habits, you will lose. You will improve your health and quality of life. And a lot of women experience fertility boosts after rapid weight loss. And some women see an improvement or remission of their PCOS. It’s a long road but worth it. And this community is the best to have in your corner on the journey. Good luck!

I am 36yr old and 5'4". Starting weight/surgery weight 268 pounds. Was sleeved 5/09 and am down 20 pounds as of TODAY!

Losing weight was always very difficult for me. I felt like I was starving and exercising like crazy with little to no results. But the surgery has helped so much!

I still feel hungry here and there, but nothing like before. So happy I did this! Don't wait, start the process now bc it takes a while. You can change your mind anytime b4 the operating room.

56 years old. 5'3". Highest recorded weight 271.5 in April 2016. I was probably over 300 during summer of 2015 based on photos but avoided scales. Surgery weight was 246 on August 23, 2016. Today, 20 months post surgery I'm at 157 (so about 150 from highest probable weight). I went from a size 24 to a size 8. Losing weight was always a struggle and worse after having kids and then menopause set in. Now I'm smaller than my two daughters who are 15 and 18 and trying to model good eating and exercise habits for them.

My only regret is not having done this 20 years ago.

PCOSer who had a hysterectomy (only removed one ovary) here. so many odds were against me. I'll be two months out in August. You can go back through my post history to see my response to another thread about PCOS that includes more details. I hit my goal weight at 9 months out and continued to lose and am down 95 pounds. Currently maintaining but may see if I can get another 5-10 off. I've had immense improvements in my PCOS symptoms, as well as overall health.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
