My nutritionist said it depends on the weight of the person not the gender. Basically a huge person needs more Protein than a thin person. At my current size my requirements are 120g protein at least. I'd check about that again, but that's what I have learned from several sources.

It’s both. The heavier you age the more you need (and generally men are heavier) but it’s also about the muscle mass and men have a higher percentage of muscle mass at the same weight.

That said any guidelines are based on the medical professionals education and experience and guidelines not absolute science at this point, because the science doesn’t exist yet. You picked your surgeon and their team because you trust their opinions and judgement. Some recommend 60g for all women some recommend 100g for everyone some base it on weight or activity level.

I don't... my surgery date is 3/29/18. But I have lost 34 lbs since January on my own and I'm currently trying to lose at least 10 more before the date. I'm excited but a little nervous.

I don't have to do a pre-op diet. This is because of my starting BMI. Highest was 41, I am now at 39 as of this morning, and still losing prior to my surgery, hoping to be at 38-37 on surgery day (in 27 days)

Even if they say I don't have to do it, I'm super minded to be in the best shape that I can be on surgery day, to hopefully recuperate faster. So I've started on a 1200 calories per day + 1 hour or exercice per day regimen (started 2 days ago)

Also, I'm doing this self-pay (Canada) so the criterias are so much less than going through the insurances (I wish, but I'm not "big enough"...!)

I’m in Charlotte, NC. I did a year of monthly nutritional visits. My surgery is on May 10. I’ve got to do the Optifast diet for 13 days. Three Protein Shakes a day and two bars or Soups a day as well. I can have 1-2 cups of sugar free Jello. My surgeon requires all patients do this and if your BMI is close to 50 you have to do 4 weeks. I don’t have fatty liver or anything, but since I’m trying to have it done with one incision near the belly button, I’m glad we’re shrinking that liver as small as we can! After surgery I have 2-4 weeks liquid only, 4 weeks soft food and blended meats (which I’m not doing because ick! I’ll stick to the soft vegetables!) then I can start testing out regular food to see what agrees with me.

I’m in Boston, MA. I didn’t have a pre-op diet. My surgeon says that the diets are used to shrink the liver, but in our program we were required to lose a certain amount of weight in the 4-6 months prior to surgery (which also shrinks the liver). They said they prefer to not have a pre-op diet because it’s too much pressure on patients to have to lose a specific amount of weight in the two weeks before surgery, and surgery is stressful enough. I definitely appreciate it.

yours sound similar to the one I'm on. I'm on low carb for three months, then they move me to calories restriction for 6 weeks. I think I still will have a liquid portion but its only a couple of days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
