Hello. I had my surgery June of 2017. I stared at around 304 (356 highest) and am down to only 256. I’m 8 months out. I feel like a huge failure. I am 24 years old. My old habits kicked in, bingeing and all that stuff. I’ve been a complete mess this evening, crying and the whole bunch thinking I have lost my opportunity to finally be where I want to be and have completely failed the surgery. I feel like now it will be impossible to lose the weight and I have completely missed the boat. How long will it take to lose 60 pounds from 8 in the out? Will the surgery still work? I’m just so scared and upset thinking of how I have failed such a wonderful opportunity.

Well...you are down 100 pounds from your heaviest...which is pretty amazing. HUGE health benefits right there...so stop thinking it was a failure. Even now...it's a serious success.

I get that you would like to weight less, though...and you can. But it's HARD. If you feel like you can't get your self sabotaging habits under control...the next step is therapy. It's not a bad thing, and it could really help to resolve some stuff that is throwing a wrench into the works. A lot of folks are resistant to the idea, but it could be a serious help...so what's the harm in giving it a try?

You should still be able to get some benefit from the surgery. Particularly, if you work hard to stick to your diet and add activity. You'll lose slower...but you can still lose.

You didn't put it all on in a few months. This is gonna take a while. Be patient with yourself and be fair to yourself. You really have come a long way already. Don't diminish how awesome that is.

Best you can do is wake up every day ready to try hard. Get back on the program and fight for every pound. You can do it. It's not too late:)

Thank you for the reply! Means a lot. I’m just so worried and thinking I’m almost at 9 months out and have only lost 40 pounds with the surgery? It’s so sad to me. I would like to lose 60 by June. Is it even possible now no matter how hard I work at it? I just feel like I wasted all the benefits from the surgery.

Surgery is a tool. You determine how to use it. Go back to your liquid and purée phases. Measure your food and exercise. You can do this. Remind yourself why you wanted to do this. Stick to 3 meals a day no Snacks. Drink plenty of fluids nothing over 10 calories unless if it is Protein induced. Don’t beat yourself up... you are doing great. You are only 8 months out. 18 month is the mark according to my doctor by month 18 you either lost to your goal weight or not but either way you must have lost some. Although first year is crucial because your body is adapting and you are learning new habits. Just kick yourself into start mode. Good luck!

If you are struggling emotionally ,binging and all that stuff...You may want to look into counseling. The mental battle with WLS is hard. But it will keep you successful long term.

I hate the word failure. You lost 97. give yourself credit for the hard work you put in. Every day is a chance to change. Don't worry about how fast you lose weight ...concentrate on the fact you are losing weight.

As others have pointed out, you've lost a tremendous amount of weight. You did not put the weight on overnight to begin with, so expecting it to come off even faster isn't realistic. You need to stop binge eating! Just stop right this minute, right now as you'll only be creating more problems for yourself. Go back to the basics of following your plan and seek some help. Go make an appointment with your dietitian and get back on track.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
