Answer my concerns please

Recommended Posts

I really like the fact that this procedure has helped a variety of people. Although I would like some feedback on a certain thing. My niece is 21 and would like to have this procedure. But.....she has thyroid issues and not taking meds, she has not tried other sources of weightloss. And I wonder that it being in Mexico when everyone is advised even vacationers this is a bad time to go there for anything. Also if you can't stick to a diet, how are you going to stick with liquids and such. I know u will get sick if u don't but I feel at her age this is a fast cure all, especially when nothing else has been done. Down the road when something happens where do you go with no insurance. Please someone ease my mind as I'm sure she's going to do it anyway and if that's what makes her happy so be it but please answer my worries and concerns.

All of your concerns are valid.

You said that you "feel at her age this is a fast cure all". It's not. If your niece doesn't adjust her lifestyle, it won't work...and that will be explained to her if her surgeon is reputable. This is not a fast or easy cure. If she goes through the process...that will be made abundantly clear.

You make a terrific point about aftercare and emergencies with no insurance. Not a good situation to be in, and hopefully your niece realizes that and takes it as seriously as she should.

My personal feeling is that your niece's priority should be to get insurance, and get her other health concerns resolved first. Thyroid is important.

But as the mom of a 22 year old...I've gotta tell ya.....they're adults now. They're going to make their own decisions, wise or unwise. All part of growing up.

Best you can do is to be there, and offer solid nonjudemental advice when you're asked for it.

Also, she might have thought this through more than you realize...and you might be making assumptions.

Best wishes to you both.

I'm consoling as if I were your family member, another aunt or something, okay? Get in touch with Bill Yanez at BariatricPal MX, he may see you on here and get in touch with you. In the meantime I'll scroll around and see if I can find his #, all I remember off the top of my head is it is a Area code 619 #. Even if you don't go with his program, which all indications show the best, he d be able to give advice. Shoot,i would go there myself if I had the money for private pay. Dr Illian is phenomenal. It's very close to San Diego, they come pick you up etc.

Maybe think of it this way, she wont have to live her whole life being unhealthy. I waited until 52 for the surgery. I feel i wasted my best years. I wish i would have done at age 20. She needs to address that thyroid asap though. Best of luck to your niece.

Also, many mds in Mexico offer short term insurance. I paid around $550 for $50000.00 of medical coverage in case of complications. Policy was good for the week i was in Mexico. But now that the week is up, i dont have covg for complications. Weight loss surgery is excluded on my regular health insurance policy. It sucks having to get that temp/complications policy, but I didnt want to risk something going wrong and having no money to pay.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
