How Come We Never Look Like We Think We Look (Especially in Photos)???

Recommended Posts

Crap girlie! So sorry to hear of this. I'd never heard of CMT before? The foot drop thing sucks! I have neuropathy from having hand-foot syndrome from super heavy duty chemotherapy. And sometimes the chemical burning and stinging are all you can stand. But thankfully, I just have numbness on parts of my feet, without the drop. ((hugs)) Does diet play any part in helping it get better at all (I know it's genetic--which parent had it)?

Mom's family -- tons of us have it! I'm sorry to read about your neuropathy, too -- cancer is such a b***h. I'm sure we'll both be better off with less weight to bear on our suffering feet. :P Soon..... right?

From your lips to God's ears sweetie! And I don't have the suckage lottery with the BC. LOL. Sounds like your's sucks wind too. ((hugs)) Sad to hear how so many on your mom's side have it. :57_cry: Here's to being able to go out for a run, or at least a slow jog one day, right? (Hey, it's our party, we can dream. Right?)

Oh wow! Saying prayers for you tomorrow that the HR woman gets your perfect piccy on the first take!!! I get it. I think I've never been photogenic, except when I was super little. But have never been able to smile naturally.

Well, we took a couple pics for the new work badge, and I didn't like them. Big surprise! But it was in the afternoon, after sitting in my dry office all day I looked like the crypt keeper, and one of my eyebrows was half rubbed off. I have a few days off now between jobs, and she said I can come back Monday morning when I'm fresh and ready to take a good picture, lol.

BTW, hope you are doing well on your liquid diet fluffy!

Wow! I totally get it! So. Many. Creases and crepe. ((hugs)) I don't know which is worse, half an eyebrow or to have all you mascara fall off your lashes and pool under your eyes like a goth. LOL. Glad she's gonna let you have a do-over! I don't guess you can take a pic and she could upload it huh?

liquid is going ok. Tonight was fairly tough-ish. I couldn't even make Mr. F.'s grilled chickie boobs. I was too hungry. I woulda caved. So I made him eat leftover potroast from the freezer with broccoli and butter and avo+tomato. Quick, ready in 5 minutes. Done! :) Thanks for being so supportive! MUAH!

I wish I could just bring in a picture of my choosing, but they have a "special system". Why do pictures have to be so hard!

I remember doing my liquid diet, it was hard smelling food, and seeing people eat it. It gets a little better after the first few days in terms of hunger but the cravings for chewing something were a struggle. Find something to help keep your hands and mind busy, it helps.

Ugh on the photo thing. I have absolutely no understanding how to take a good one. The minute the camera comes out some weird spaz thing starts happening with my face. My ENTIRE face! You know? (But for the record, your avatar is darling and you look cutie patootey.) So maybe you just have no idea that you're secretly photogenic?

The cooking part has some amount of challenge to it. I mostly occupy myself cleaning the kitchen while Mr. F's been eating. So it hasn't been a real issue. I'm playing about a crap-ton of hearts and solitaire and the dice game I can't remember the name of on my iphone. And today is actually better. I still haven't eaten my first meal yet cuz I'm not hungry. I figure I'll wait until I feel the urge. :D

Uhg .. I dont think,I have ever taken a good picture. Even if I feel really good, I look in the mirror, or someone, usually my mom who is always taking pictures takes one of me and I'm brought back to reality...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
