Portion Sizes

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

So Im on the final eating stage, but my nutritionist quit right after my 1 month follow up. I wont see the new one until March..... What are the portions sizes i should be eating. I dont know if i am eating too much, because I am ALWAYS hungry and never feel full. I measure 4-6 oz for everything on my plate. Is that right? Or am I suppose to be using measuring cups? How much Protein should I have at each meal and how much vegetable should i have with it? What if its salad?

My last questions is does anyone have suggestion to help with the always hungry and never feeling full sitution. Thanks everyone for any help you can provide.

I'm not out quite as far as you (surgery was 12/12), but I've been having meals that consist of 4 oz of dense Protein (i.e. chicken, ham, sausage, ground meat). That usually leaves me painfully full and I have to eat really slow and chew a lot. Most folks say something in that vicinity is pretty typical. If you have softer things or eat over more than half an hour you can fit more. If I have ground turkey I'll often mix it with 1 oz of re fried Beans and .5 oz of sour cream and that'll be a meal. My program is low carb, so my meals are pretty boring...

Did you get a packet pre-surgery that talked about the stages? Sometimes those have meal suggestions with portion sizes.

If you eat about 1000-1200 calories per day, you'll do great. When you see your new nutritionist, you can ask for adjustments specific to you. Try to eat 60-80g of Protein a day (or even more). Good luck:)

Yes I did, but it only says what i can eat. and of course this stage is the only one that doesn't have the meal suggestion.

Vegetables depend a bit on the program. In my case if I can fit them great, if not then they say don’t worry about it. When I do get in vegetables it’s 1/4 - 1/2 cup of something that’s usually mushy (canned green Beans, carrots, etc).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
