After my last NUT visit, then what??!!

Recommended Posts

Hey friends-

I've been through 5 visits with my dietician and have my last one scheduled for February 20th (lost 30 pds. so far). I've already completed my psych evaluation and sleep apnea evaluation. What happens when I'm finished with my last visit? Do they submit it to insurance? Do I see the surgeon for a pre-op appointment? I'm a planner with anxiety, so having a timeline is very helpful for me. Help!!!

It's different for every medical group, so the best thing to do is give them a call or an email and see what they say:)

I have mine next week. She told me that she would send the paperwork to the doc's office the very same day.

It will take the doc's office a day, or 5, to get all the stuff together and send it into insurance. Then you wait. And wait. And wait. And if you're like everyone else in the world except me, they'll get back to you in 2 weeks and you'll probably have surgery the next day. *snort*

Now if you're me...you'll wait 2-4 weeks to hear back from insurance. Then you'll get a call to start your 2 week liquid diet (if you're approved). If not, then you have to get with your doc/insurance company and figure out the appeal approach.

Congrats on your weight loss success!!!!

I went to my last nutrition appointment at 11am on a Thursday. The office called me at 2pm the same day with a surgery date and a million instructions. I was grocery shopping at the time and trying to scribble everything down on my grocery list. I was shocked. My official approval letter from my insurance came about a week later, and surgery was almost three weeks from that visit.

MNgirl...you'll likely need some presurgical labs, an EKG, either a barium swallow x-ray study of your upper GI, or an endoscopy, and a chest x-ray.

(again, this could differ by group and individual)

We also had to attend a support group, nutrition classes, and see a trainer.

See? This is what I'm tawkin' 'bout! LOL. Now I will probably wait 5 months for them to say yes, and another 5 years to get scheduled with my surgeon. LOL. :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
