2 weeks pre-surgery....very nervous reading some of the posts

Recommended Posts

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question. You all had wonderful things to say and it helped put my mind at ease. You're right....I did make the decision to do this while I was in a clear and rational state of mind and I trust and I KNOW that this is the right decision for me. Thank you for the well wishes and support. It means the world. It's nice to know other people have been through or are going through the same thing you are and came out on the other side all the better for it.[emoji4]

I’m so glad you are feeling better :)

A majority of the people who have the surgery are trouble free. The loudest of us are those few who are suffering post surgical complications. You are gonna do great!!!

Hello, I am starting my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow and my surgery is scheduled for 2 weeks from now. I've been reading some of the posts and they are really scaring me. I was nervous before but also very excited about changing this part of my life. Is there anyone out there that has had a positive post-op experience? Also, is it true that if you have reflux prior to surgery that it will get worse after? Thank you so much.

You will be fine! Read my posts. I had surgery on the 18th.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
