Traveling in a car

Recommended Posts

I already have a date for my surgery and also just booked a summer vacation. I just realized that I will be sitting in a car for 9 to 10 hours 6 weeks after my bypass. I am scared that this may not be a good idea, but i cannot change the date for vacation.

I had the sleeve done, not bypass, but 6 weeks seems like plenty of time to heal up and be feeling well.

I’m having my bypass done on Wednesday, and have a 10.5 hour trip planned for exactly 4 weeks out from my surgery date. They say I’ll be fine, but should stop fairly often to walk around a bit. I’m sure you’ll do great.

I had a 11 hour car ride home 4 days after surgery. I was uncomfortable from gas pain, and we stopped often for breaks. I was peeing out a lot of IV fluid! We also had a delay for a broken AC, so I was miserably sitting on a curb in 100 degree Florida humidity. Other than that, the ride was fine.

I had sleeve done dec. 15 and did 10 hr roadtrip 2 weeks later. I took short walks whenever we stopped for gas/bathroom. Only thing i struggled with was keeping up with my fluids. Aside from that i was pretty much in sweats the whole time and had a cooler of Protein Drinks, Soup (which you can heat up in gas station microwaves), and sugar free pudding.

I went back to work after gastric bypass after 7 weeks and I am a correctional officer. I think you should be fine, get out for 5 minutes every couple hours, stay hydrated and don’t cheat on your diet. I was sore going back to work but manageable, I think you should be alright. Still get out like every two hours and walk, even if you feel fine :) don’t drive if you can manage that

You’ll be fine. 1.5 weeks post-op I was only slightly uncomfortable in the car. I was nervous about the prospect of a car ride — my doc suggested putting a pillow between my stomach and the seat belt, but it honestly wasn’t even necessary.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
