Consultation tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I'm getting very nervous. Tomorrow I go to San Diego and the next day I will have my consultation, blood work and psych eval for WLS. I've been reading about it and I hope I'm prepared, but still very nervous and the closer it gets the worse my nerves. Has anyone else gone to Scripps Mercy Hospital?

So I flew down to Scripps Mercy in San Diego, met with a woman named Darcy who took me to all of my appointments at the campus. First was a blood draw, no biggie just 4 or 5 vials and we were done. Next was the psych evaluation, they asked basic questions, how am I doing, how was my childhood, any trauma or abuse, etc., (no you don't have to have had a perfect childhood to pass this I guarantee mine was not) not too bad and they didn't go too in-depth. Next was the physician check, they went over my health history, took an EKG, checked my breathing, lungs heart, blood pressure etc. pretty standard, not scary at all. Last was the surgeon, they checked my height, weight, felt my stomach, checked my feet and again lungs and heart. The surgeon went over the surgery and disappointed me because he did not agree that I should get the sleeve, he seemed pretty set on RNY so I'm going to be giving it a bit more thought. Also he put me on a pre-opp diet replacing Breakfast & lunch with Premier Protein shakes and a minimum of 10 lbs. loss in the next month, not too bad.

Everyone said I should be good to go and I should hear something soon (my bloodwork results were not in yet).

I'm excited, can't wait for the next step and to hear that insurance approved me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
