When did your weightloss slow down?

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve done on 12/29. My weight loss in the first week and half was great- 13lbs. Since then for the last week and half it has slowed to an average of about 2 lbs per week. I realize long term this is normal.

Question to everyone - how long after surgery was it for you to see the "crazy loss" slow down to your normal weekly loss?

I feel like the period should have lasted longer for me. I'm sure it's different for everyone but I was looking for a consensus.

well 12 lbs is totally crazy loss...I thought 16 in a month was crazy. my ticker below gives my monthly play by play and it looks pretty common from what ive seen (12-18 a month in 1-2) then a drop to around 8-12/month until about month 6 and then another drop from there.

Keep in mind starting weight (BMI) has a huge impact of rate of loss, certainly early on. Age and health conditions all impact rates of loss.

The reality is, that I have yet to see even one post from someone who considers themselves a "slow loser" who actually is a slow loser. most bariatric patients have wildly unrealistic expectations of post op weight loss. I can only imagine it has to come from shows like "my 600lb life. Think of it in percentage of total weight...if you weigh 600lbs and you lose 5% a month for the first two months...it looks like 30lbs. if you weigh 250lbs 5% looks like 12.5lbs.

At least you're headed in the right direction, man. Think positive. I am still at the pre-op stage and if I am trending downward like you are, it will be a good day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
