How often to eat/drink first week

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, sorry if this is a dumb question but I am getting sleeved on Monday and know what to eat post op with clears but I’m not sure how often to try an eat the clear foods. Is this the same frequency as regular meals (8am, noon, 5pm) or are you trying to eat at different intervals. I see that you should be hydrating 1 -2 oz every 15 mins but didn’t know if broth, Jello, etc are at specific different times. Just want to be successful and appreciate your experience and thoughts.

I’m 4 days post op, and I wondered about this also, but you will see that it’s kind of a constant, time consuming battle. I was encouraged to drink 6oz of Fluid every hour. I ended up having to stay an extra day in the hospital because I physically could not consume more than 2oz each hour. They let me go when I could consistently do 4-5oz/hr. Now that I’m home, I split my 2 Protein Shakes into 4 servings and spread them out through the day. I always have tea and Water within reach and just sip constantly. Water is even filling! I’ll usually do broth mid day and 1oz of Jello twice a day. Pretty much my entire day consists of sipping something lol.

I agree, at three days post-op I sip constantly and I feel like I'm still not reaching my goals. I've only gone through one Protein Shake, one cup of tea, one cup of broth, and a half bottle of Powerade zero today and it's almost time for bed. There's just no room for more.

You'll do what you can and as long as you're pushing yourself to do more, eventually you will land where you need to be. I think I did half of this yesterday.

Mine was 12-28. I found it easy to constantly sip water/Gatorade. I kept it on me everywhere I went. The Protein was hard initially to get 60g. I am honestly still having trouble with it but it’s getting easier. I have found that i can do 4 gulps of premiere Protein Shake at a time. So I try to take 4 gulps every 2-3 hours. Then for lunch I have a yogurt. Then I start my second shake when I get home. Then for dinner I have Campbell’s Tomato Soup watered down (not much of it), and then before bed i try to finish my second shake. This seems to be a pretty good routine and is actually pretty easy to consume throughout the day.
Hope this helps!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
