Was anyone given a sedative on the day of surgery to relax you. How did it make you feel?

I don't know if it was a sedative, but they did give me something to help relax me in my IV prior to going into the OR. I didn't have a care in the world. It was wonderful.

I was given something in my IV prior to leaving my pre-surgery room and then sedated once I was settled in in the OR.

I was nervous before my EGD last week and they gave me Versed in my IV...calmed me right down! I expect I'll get the same at surgery.

My anesthesiologist asked me if I was nervous as soon as I got on the operating table. I said yes and he said he would give me something to relax me and when he put whatever it was in my IV, I was so relaxed, I had no idea what they were doing to prep me. Best thing ever.

How did it make you feel?

It made me feel like I was on cloud nine. Had no care in the world. Have no clue what it was, but I don’t remember anything after having it. Next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. The same anesthesiologist came in and gave me more. After that they had me to my room and I walked in to the bed and fell asleep for another hour or so. Then I got up and walked the halls to relieve the gas pain.

Presurgically, I was offered a little Xanax because I have a history of anxiety. I wasn't feeling too anxious, so I passed.....but I love how Xanax takes the edge off. Good stuff, and if you're really fearful, it will help a great deal:)

Yes, in most places it's phase 1 of anesthesia and usually given as you leave pre op for the OR. In my case it made me a bit fuzzy, but that was it.

Dang they didnt give me anything and I had a stress Migraine surgery day. I was in a whole lot of hurt while doing all of the pre op stuff with them. Of course after surgery I had morphine that gave me stomach cramps and dry heaving until they figured out that was a no go. I am glad I had surgery but that was the actual worst day of my life. My sleeve was worth it.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
