Recommended Posts

I am worried you guys.

How do you get the gastric sleeve and gain weight at 4 weeks post op. (Laughing) and it appears that I am able to eat more ( already) Teeth chattering

I am consuming about 1,300 calories with my Protein Drinks and I don't know how. I drink a ton of Water and other things

I worry that somethings wrong

What do you guys think. I"d like to hear your calorie intake @ 4 weeks post op and.. did you hit a stall and gain between week 3- and 4

I too am stalling. Since about the 26th to still now, I had the same with the scale going down and back up about a pound, I figure it's Water weight with it just being 1 lb.. But I'll be 4 weeks on monday, and I'm only able to take in about 500-600 calories Max including my shakes.

What's your daily food schedule like? I've been hitting my liquid and Protein goals as well as my exercise goals so the only thing I can think of for the stall is that my calories are too low. 🤔. But my nutritionist said they don't focus on calories just to focus on getting in protein.

How are you getting 1300 cals at 4 weeks? It still isn't all about calories at this point (it is about Protein and water) but that seems high. Even with food and protien shakes I could barely hit 600 cals a day a month out.

Seriously people need to stop freaking out over stalls. They happen. Just accept it. Stay the course and the scale will start moving again. This forum has hundreds of threads on this topic. It isn't the end of the world. Your body is still healing and it will do amazing things to hold onto any weight it can if it feels like it is starving. Track your food. Do some exercises. And quit obsessing over the scale. The people that seem to fret the most are the ones that weigh themselves 3-4x a day. Weigh yourself once a week. Do it at the same time of day (first thing in the morning) and on the same day each week.

If you have two Protein drinks Orion a day, that along will run you about 500 or so calories, then add in some chicken and other protein, its easy..

And I'm "seriously" not freaking out about the stall. I am concerned though

I don't wan to do anything wrong. Keep in mind you've had some months to learn the normal and not normal scenerios and I'm only (not even ) one month post op surgery, so pls, as frustrating as it is to read concerns from people who have had had it long after you did, try to show a tad more restraint on snubbing your nose, please

Yep! December 11th here as well. I was 321 on the day of surgery and am currently sitting at 299.6. I'm also not freaking out about the stalls, if I get concerned I just remind myself that I've had the surgery and there's no way with eating right that I won't lose the weight. I weigh myself every Wednesday.
I had a little bit of a rough start with dehydration a few days out but am feeling pretty good now [emoji4]

I'm not snubbing my nose at you. It's just the truth of the matter. I saw it with folks long before I had my surgery and time and time again. It isn't worth stressing about, honestly. Your other thread showed signs of classic worrying about the scale - weighing on different scales, multiple times a day, etc. It's just sad seeing people get really freaked out over it. Not saying you, just people in general. Only trying to get you to take a deep breath and relax. I'm seen some people really wig about about the scale and it isn't fun to see people beat themselves up because they didn't lose 10 lbs this week. You have to remember - if you are losing any weight that is not a stall. A true stall is annoying as crap, believe me.

What Protein brand are you using? I know my "cheaper" brand runs about 200 calories a serving for 30g of protein. My more expensive Unjury is only 100 cals but only gets you 21g protein. With skim mik then it's pushing 200 cals and 30g of protein. It does seem like your calories are a bit high this early on so there might be some diet tweaks that can be made, but also don't spend so much time trying to get it down too low if you're exercising on top of it. I had complications after my surgery so I couldn't fathom exercising at 4 weeks out.

Eh, no worries. It's the internet. It's easy for things to get taken the wrong way so no harm. :)

You say you're drinking lots of Water. Are you keeping your fluids seperate from your meals? I know that I've noticed a difference of not feeling as satisfied with a meal if I ate too soon after drinking or started drinking too soon after eating. That is one thing that can hamper things. If you're waiting about 30 minutes before/after a meal to drink they you're doing it right.

To be honest if you're exercising that much you could very well be not getting enough calories to keep up. When I hit my first stall I actually found out that by increasing my calories by about 200/day it helped the weight come off. I know it seems odd but the body is a strange thing at times. If it goes into starvation mode it wants to hold onto every ounce that it can. You may want to actually tone down your routine a bit. I know doing journals can be a pain but keeping an accurate log for a few weeks will help.

There's always little tweaks that can be made. I was using a little bit of strawberry preserves in my cottage cheese up until I realized just how many empty cals/carbs where in a serving. I at least switched to sugar free, but even then I stopped using it as often and considered it a treat when I did have it. I really don't want to say cut this/that out because God knows any morsel of food was a Godsend at 4 weeks...lol. You might try looking closer at carbs. Those do more harm to me than calories ever do.

I'll be 4 weeks out on Monday as well. I've been on a stall the last 5 days after losing almost a pound per day after surgery.

I'm only getting to 600-700 calories per day, which is usually 2 Protein Shakes and 3 other meals of some kind of Protein per day.

I use nectar protein brand, which are 100 cals/24g protein each. I make them with fairlife skim milk (80 cals/13g protein)which makes each shake 180 calls and 37g protein.

My 3 "food" meals per day don't seem to give me much calories as they're lean protein and I can only eat 2-2.5oz at each meal. I'm in the soft foods stage and have been eating a lot of fish/seafood for these meals.

Starting weight: 406

Surgery weight: 318

Current weight: 297

Goal weight: 225 (6'3")

I was four weeks out on Monday. I'm getting between 600 and 700 calories per day, with one or two weird days when I was ravenous and hit mourn 900 calories of Protein Shakes, yogurt, and refried Beans. I expect that when I am allowed to start exercise that is more vigorous than walking, my calorie count will increase. That's at six weeks, so not long now!

I was taught that a weight loss stall is three weeks without changes to scale weight or size. I am just at week 4, and have lost about 12 or 13 pounds since surgery. So by the definition that I am using, no I haven't had any stalls. I have had days I did not lose anything on the scale and days that the scale bounced upward instead of down. And then I have stretches where the scale shows a pound down every day. Pre-Surgery or post surgery, weight loss before and during the week of my period is impossible. It just does not happen.

I think something that helps me stay sane is that I believe weight loss is not linear. On a given day you can eat exactly the right amount of calories to lose, drink all your Water, and exercise, but the scale the next morning may not give you a loss. But if you stay the course over time, you absolutely will lose weight/fat/mass.

Lucky you for that exercise clearance! I am looking forward to working out, especially almost 40 lbs lighter than I was when I started the pre-op diet.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
