Hello,

My name is Debbie and I am anxiously waiting approval from my insurance company for the lapbanding. I have provided them with the necesssary 6 months of dieticians, physicians appointments, and all other requirements for this procedure. I am lucky to find this site. You have answered some of my questions pre-surgery. I was especially worried about the 10 day liquid diet I must have prior to surgery. I have noted some of the items you suggested. I must say, I am still wondering if lap banding is the right choice vs. gastric bypass. Back in 1980's I had the stomach stapling and it didn't work. I never lost my desired weight. Now, I watch the TV show Big Medicine and it seems like everyone is doing the gastric bypass. Last week they showed someone who had the lap band, surgerically removed and they did the bypass. The doctors on that show said the band adhered itselft to the stomach and it was difficult to remove. Does anyone have any comments regarding this? Are you all happy you had the lap band? Besides the liquid diet, and some pain are anyone of you regreating you did'nt do the bypass? Thanks for letting me sound off. I'm excited but scared at the same time.

Debbie

Welcome Debbie!

I was banded 9-20-07 and i do not regret having this done. I did a lot of researching when i started considering WLS and decided the band was best for me. The band is less invasive than the gastric bypass and the mortality rate for GB was just too high for me. Some statistics say 1 in 200 die from the surgery and another said 1 in 300 die. That was too risky for me and i also wanted to lose weight at a slow healthy rate. Gastric Bypass patients seem to lose very quickly. I can't tell you what to do. You have to do what you think is best for yourself. Good luck and i hope you find the answers your looking for. God bless!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
