13 days post op & total weight stall...

Recommended Posts

After surgery I spent two days in the hospital. In those two days, I gained 12 pounds of fluids! I came home and started my Clear Liquids diet. I was losing 2-3 lbs a day. I realize some of that was Fluid, but my total weight loss snice my last pre-op appointment is 25 lbs. I know that's a lot, but now I'm so frustrated. The scale hasn't budged in 4 days. I'm literally the exact same weight every day. One day, I even gained a pound! What's going on? I'm still barely eating. Only 2 tablespoons three times a day. I get tworse whole Protein Shakes in every day, which is 60 grams of Protein. I sip Water constantly. So what gives? I've heard to be patient, but it's hard when you feel hungry and adhere to all the guidelines & the weight loss just isn't there. Anyone else have this issue?

side note: I lost 11 lbs before sugery, so I've only lost 14 since surgery.

Be steady, stay consistent, try not to be scale obsessed.

Record your food. And eat. Work up to 1000-1200 calories by 6 weeks out.

Record your fluids.

Record your Protein.

Record your exercise.

Record your blood pressure.

Don't worry about your weight so much right now. Lotta Water redistributing, hormones, all sorts of weirdness. If you keep steady on your diet and exercise....it'll happen.

Be patient and try really hard to quit the emotional obsession with the scale. The constant highs "look, I lost two pounds!!!" and lows.."OMG, why did I just gain a pound???" are upsetting and counterproductive.

Slow and steady wins the race:)

I wouldn't call it an "emotional obesession. I was told to record my weight daily until I see my surgeon again.

I record ensuring else except exercise since all I'm allowed to do is go on walks.

Me too Cheryl83 - not a pound since last Wednesday - in fact I am now a bit heavier than I was then!

It does make you feel a bit despondent. BUT I remember 10 years ago when I had my lap band, this would happen - and then there would be a big drop. I also found gaps in weigh drop were often accompanied by size drop - like maybe your body is redistributing fat around. Yesterday I realised I fit my old wedding ring again (my fingers are getting thinner!) and my jeans are down a size.

I keep reminding myself that I KNOW, inside, that it will happen...

I honestly forgot to track measurements & wish I would've before I lost 25lbs! I need to start. Clothes and yes, my rings, feel much bigger even though the scale isn't moving! Thanks for the encouragement!!!! <3

Hello, new to the group. I'm post op almost two weeks now. Following liquids ONLY diet for 4 weeks per surgeons orders. Getting in 64-72 oz Protein daily (some days better than others). I've lost 10 lbs. from day of surgery. I don't feel like I look any different but I know clothes are fitting better.

Reading the above, should I expect to lose pounds by the day? I haven't weighed myself again yet.

My first pos op appointment is in a week.

Sleeved: 12/19/17

Thank you!

I am only on liquids for 2 weeks.

I am weighing daily until my first post op visit in 3 weeks.

Everyone is different, but I was dropping weight regularly until 4 days ago.

I get at least 60g of Protein & 60ish oz of Water daily. I've heard stalls are normal, but this early on, just seems strange.

I had a stall 2 weeks post op. My Dr advised it is common as your body is adjusting to the reduced calorie intake. The stall passed in about 10 days and the I dropped a lot of weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
