Suggestions for alternative anti-inflammatory meds please!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First let me say I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I've been super, super busy.

I have bad jaw pain right now (I have no idea why) and am dying to take an anti-inflammatory. Not Tylenol, because Tylenol does nothing for inflammation. NSAIDS not only help the symptoms, they help to heal the underlying inflamation by breaking the cycle of inflamation.

Since we can't take Motrin or Advil, etc., does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative? Maybe something herbal or whatever.

Thanks!!!

Becky

If you are really hurting, I would go get some liquid Advil and take it with Water to wash it through your pouch. It's not something that you'd probably want to take every day, but once in a while won't hurt anything.

Advil is the only thing that hurts when my back flares up, because it's when my muscles become inflamed. No amount of tylenol helps that for me.. Of course, Rx pain meds knock me right out, so that is good too.. BUT..

I do have advil once in a blue moon when it gets 'really bad' which is very rare these days (woohoo). I take the pills, but I drink a full 8oz at least of Water with it, to make sure it gets washed down well.

Hey Becky,

I take an anti-inflamatory every day. It is prescription but it really helps. It is called Arthrotec and it is bariatric friendly. Actually, it is prescribed by my LB surgeon! I know it is not a quick fix, but perhaps you can get the meds to have on hand.

Yeah, liquid Motrin is what I would suggest ...the problem is that it is very expensive because it's a children's medicine and we gotta take like 3 Tbsp at a time!....which is about 1/3 of the bottle! :)

We were looking for you on R&R the other day! Come back!!!

The big issue with NSAIDs is that it doesn't stay in your pouch. If you were to take an 800mg Motrin and it got stuck that might not be great. But if you were to talk to your doc about liquid Motrin and 8oz of Water as a chaser, he might not have a problem with that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
