Hopeful VSG success (lightweight introduction)(lazy eater)

Recommended Posts

I am booked in for the 6th of Jan and its all starting to feel real.
I am due for surgery in 2019 after which I cannot gain weight, so I am having the VSG to help lose weight and maintain long term.
I am 26 with a BMI of 31.
non-smoker, non-drinker.
I used to have very bad eating habits, I dont remember my highest weight, maybe 14-15 stone but it was quite the bit larger than I am now, I would eat in secret and binge, I changed my eating habits to a whole food diet and lost quite a bit of weight, to about 10 stone but gained 2.6 stone back to the weight I am now and have maintained for a few years.
Truth is after years of maintaining a healthy diet and then decreasing portion sizes and exercising and not really seeing it pay off I lost interest in food and got lazy, so my healthy diet went out of the window and was replaced by bland quick meals, a lot of rice and bread. Recently I had nothing but crackers and cheese all day to ward off hunger rather than preparing actual food.
Im not much of a foody, I dont eat fast food other than the occasional take-out / takeaway, Just whatever is easy to prepare. Im hoping VSG will get me back to mindful eating and seeing better results will keep me motivated, that and the fact that my future surgery requires me to maintain.
I know I probably could shift the weight if I put my mind to it, but statistically, for me to lose the weight and keep it off long term is unlikely.
So I am hopeful this will work out well, I think I am in a good position and I did enjoy what I ate on my wholes food diet when I could be bothered to cook!
If you have a similar issue with lazy eating habits please let me know im not alone!

Your not alone! The best part now is it doesn't take much to fill me up and complete a meal. I'm also rather lazy but it's a lot easier post op. Protein Shake for Breakfast and it's filling! It doesn't get any easier than that lol Couple of ounces of meat for lunch, or a yogurt with fruit, couple of ounces of meat for dinner. Squeeze in a couple of pieces of veggies and fruit along the way and I'm good to go.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
