I'm so interested in what folks have to say about this. I too had the sleeve and my Gerd disappeared but now 3 yrs later and almost all my weight gained back in the past year due to personal loss that caused depression my Gerd is back worse then ever before. So I've been thinking about revision surgery.

I had RNY in 2007, went from 325 to 170 and kept if off for 11 years, which felt awesome. When I had my baby (225 lbs) I just never took the baby weight off, got lax and gained a 50 lbs of weight on top of that. I had a revision to the bypass to reduce my stomach size and really want to get below 200lbs again. So far am down to 255 from 275 day of surgery but am struggling with weakness. Eating soft foods now and hovering below 600 calories a day with 30 minutes of walking. Should I be eating less? Exercising more? I forget everything I did in 2007 to be successful and am still in shock that I’m back here again. Thank you.

I had ds surgery on 8/17/21 and i lost a total of 27 lbs so far but i hit a 3 week stall and it is soooooo depressing ,., idk what to do… and yes i can eat more than i thought i should be able too.. my doctor did tell me that they didn’t touch my sleeve either … So understand you… i feel like i lost with this surgery but i’m trying my hardest to stay positive

Um, SADI is not a mini bypass hun. It's another name for the SIPS/Loop Duodenal Switch surgery. And because the sleeve is, quite literally, the first part of the surgery they probably didn't feel the need to mess with your stomach and just went ahead and did the intestinal bit. They should have at least checked to see if there was any stretching in your original pouch, but if they didn't see anything wrong with it's size then they wouldn't have felt the need to mess with it because that would have been pointless if it wasn't necessary. If your surgeon didn't at least check your pouch then I'd complain, but if they did and didn't feel the need to mess with it then you're fine. Yes, it massively sucks that because they didn't work on your pouch you have your hunger hormone and can eat more than you would right after surgery, so that's bound to be difficult. I, myself, didn't have a revision, but had the full SADI/SIPS/Loop DS surgery 19 months ago right out the gate. It's a powerful tool and malabsorption should work really well for you weight loss as long as you watch your intake. Keep in mind that the protein and vitamin levels necessary are much higher than for the VSG so what you're eating is very important. Also, keep in mind that you're still really early in your revision and there's always that pesky stall that most people get right in the first month of weight loss. Buyers remorse in the beginning is normal. I know I felt it for the first two weeks or so, but I got over it pretty quickly after that and I just wish I'd done it for myself sooner. I am scheduled for a revision in December. I am so encouraged by this. I have always been hungry. And I know my stomach empties fast. I pray that I lose the hungry feeling. Glad you're doing well.

Things are going very well. No goals since it was more about my Gerd which seems to be resolved (Yay lol). I'm 28 lbs. down now, and I think the revision was the best thing I could have done for myself. As my surgeon said after my post-op appointment... It's already a win then if my Gerd is gone. I did bring up the fact that I can't eat very much and my calories are 500-700 cal. at best and he said "Good. Keep it that way for awhile to lose more weight." That's about all he said lol. One thing that has helped my appetite or lack thereof, is I can sleep much better because I'm not constantly waking up with acid in my throat anymore. Waking up and not being able to sleep always tempted me to munch on something for energy instead of sleep. Thank you so much for asking!

I've read it has something to do with where they cut the stomach that stops your brain from registering hunger. I'm 5 weeks post op and I don't feel hunger either. I'm totally fine with that!! But it is dangerous because, if I could, I'd just choose not to eat at all. Or take my vitamins and drink my protein shakes, gross. But I do what I'm supposed to do so I'm carrying on, Down 43 pounds so far!

Almost two weeks now, and am feeling pretty much the same. Pretty good. A little tired though. No acid reflux or burning throat, sleeping well. My sore throat from the surgery went away by day 2, gas pains by day 3. Had a big lump under one of my incisions but it healed really well, but the lump is still there. No pain at the incision but I see my surgeon in a few days. I'm eating between 400-600 cal. Trying to meet my protein goals but alas, it is hard. I have no idea how many calories I should be eating though. My surgeon said not to worry about that right now. Thank you so much for asking!!! ?

Ahhh, I wanted to add that my throat no longer burns all day and I can sleep without acid rushing up to my mouth. The revision was successful (so far) for the original purpose and that was Gerd/esophagitis.

Had the revision a few days ago. I went from vsg to rny. From day one with the sleeve, I was hungry. I don't know why. From beginning to end, the most I could eat was 10 oz with my sleeve, and I still lost weight but I remember it being a struggle to keep under 1200 cal. So with the RNY, the recovery pain isn't much different than the sleeve. Every pain was doable. I didn't feel nauseous, never threw up when I was in the hospital. I do feel like I did 1000 sit-ups. GasX helped a lot. I felt like I could've walked out of the hospital that evening but I had to stay overnight (due to insurance). I walked out of there at 11 am the next day. It's been 4 days, and I'm not hungry at all. The two days of clear liquid for pre-op was difficult, but now 4 days post-op RNY there is zero hunger. It's a new feeling for me.
Some notes for the curious: I had a urinary catheter while asleep. My revision took less than 1.5hrs. I had a serious dry mouth and a sore throat that made me want to eat more ice chips and drink more water, which is good. No nausea, I took Aprepitant 40mg capsule two hours before. That helps with post-op nausea and vomiting. If any of you have any questions, please just ask and I will share my experience.

I was definitely very nervous. The wait really is the worst. Too much time for your imagination to run wild. At one point my husband asked me what I was looking for and I told him "The exit!". Needless to say, the staff will take good care of you. Like @Tahoegirl said, we wouldn't be normal if we weren't nervous,

I never tried those products but for the smoothies, I find sometimes having that mixing ball in the shaker helps get rid of clumps.

I was nervous as heck, on the verge of panic crying, so I can definitely relate to what you are going through! They did give me some IV meds before they took me back, it took the meds probably less than a minute to kick in and suddenly everything was fine. It all felt a little surreal, and I was no longer ready to panic cry, I think I even felt a little silly.

The waiting to go to the surgery room after getting into my gown was definitely the worst part. Just be sure to tell them how freaked out you are and ask for something to calm you down. They wont give it till after you've signed the consents and gone over everything with the doc's, but once its on board you'll be fine.
