Does everyone go through this feeling??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am looking to get your thoughts on how you felt right before surgery. Tomorrow is day 10 of my liquid diet, with surgery the following day. But suddenly I’m starting to question if I made the right decision. Maybe because I’m so hungry and seeing others eating is kinda depressing. But if I don’t go through with it I’ll feel like I’ve failed myself and others I’ve talked so in depth with. Please tell me I’m not alone in these thoughts and what you decided to do? Thank you all.

I had those exact feelings the day before and morning of my surgery. I think 2 weeks of a liquid diet was starting to effect me and my thinking.

After thinking things though I new I'd made the right decision, I'd tried every diet out there and never kept the weight off long term, I needed the surgery or I was going to develop health complications as I got older.

Your not alone, its normal to have second thoughts when you are making a big decision.

Good luck with your surgery.

Yes I wrestled back and forth if I should have the surgery, which surgery to have, could I just lose the weight myself, etc. I’m only 4 days post op, but so far, I’m glad I did it. I think it’s normal to have doubts before you have surgery. It’s a big decision. Try and think about why you started the process in the first place. Best wishes for a healthy surgery and speedy recovery!

I was just the same. Surely I could do it myself (despite a lifetime of evidence)?

13 days post op and Not. One. Single. Regret.

Great support crew, right here.

xxx to you.

Thank you for the encouraging words. I stop to think, maybe I can try one more diet, or how I’m afraid I’ll never get to enjoy anything again the I do like to eat. But I know that is the entire reason I am doing this, to stop eating that way and get healthy. I just don’t want to ever look back with regret (either way).
Thank you again! I appreciate everyone’s posts.

What you're describing is totally common. Trust your saner self....the you who jumped through hoops and fought hard for this opportunity. Don't trust starving liquid diet you...who is scared and hungry and feeling discouraged. You can do this. You really can. Get over the hump of the surgery and you're on your way.

Thank you! I am feeling more confident with each response I get here. You’re all a great source of info and encouragement. I had a long talk with both my wife and mother tonight. And the one thing I’m really thankful for is their support in whatever decision I make. And as you’ve said, I’ve gone this far and it’s basically the liquid diet talking. A good nights sleep should help me clear my mind and feel better about it all.
Thank you again!

I agree with what the others have said. I’m one year out today and have zero regrets. I remember that feeling of uncertainty before surgery. It’s normal. My liquid diet pre surgery was only for 24 hrs so I can’t even imagine how your mental state is right now without eating. Guess what...after surgery you will also go through a little mourning period but then seeing the progress will make you feel better. Be kind to yourself! Especially now. You are worth whatever it takes to find the best version of you.

Had the same. The thing that helped was that Ivirtually everyone more than a few months out says it's the best decision they made. Even people who had severe and weird issues say that. You can still eat what you enjoy eventually, just a lot less. I was very nervous in pre-op waiting (it was hours), but then realized that my dr does like 5 of these a day and luckily was able to talk to other folks waiting for the same surgery too.

I'm starting to become nervous myself. My sleeve is January 2nd and I just got my time for surgery. I do believe it is the "liquid diet" talking and I'm trying to remember how far I came.

I am going through the exact same thing. My surgery is Jan 3 I have been on preop diet for 10 days, and hungry lot. I agree with the responses, liquid diet is affecting our ability to think straight. We can do this. We are almost there. Hang in there and let us know how it goes.

Thank you all for responding. I did go through with the surgery Thursday and came home the next day. I truly know I made the right decision.
And to healthy angel and dolphin, believe me that I know your pain and state of mind, but just stay positive and like some of the others told me, look at all the reason you’re doing this, mainly for YOURSELF. And how far you’ve come. You can do it and I believe in you! Keep drinking as much as you can to keep full and be proud of yourselves. It’s worth it!

Yes....I did...and I did again on my 2nd day post op...(that was my worse day)...but starting day 3 till now (day 13) I don't regret 1 min.... I'm down 28 lbs (including the 6 lbs I gained in hospital from all the IV fluids...you pee this out quickly).... You won't regret your choice in a few more days... Hang in there... YOU got this!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
