I can’t be the only one

Recommended Posts

I’m starting my 6 month doctor supervised phase in January. I go to my surgeon/team January 5th and I’m so excitedly anxious! BUT.. I can’t help but feel like.. what if this doesn’t work?! I know I’m not the only one who has ever thought this.

I’m 5’4”, 241lbs, 28 years old. I have about 100-110lbs to lose. Of course, I’ve tried *everything*. Which is why I get these thoughts of “this won’t work either” in my head. How do I get past those thoughts and get through this 6 months without driving myself insane?!

I’m so ready for this change. I’ve thought about it for 2 years and finally have 100% of my hubbys support. I guess I’m just afraid of ruining it somehow. Sorry for the rambling!!

There's hardly a soul who does not ponder this same thought ... many of them for days on end.

Step back and think of the ultimate good you're doing for yourself.

Ponder the healthier you at a more normal body mass!

Over 90% of people have a GOOD or EXCELLENT outcome from gastric sleeve surgery.

It'll, very likely, be a good outcome for you too!

as long as you're compliant, you *will* lose a ton of weight!

You will lose weight, I'm 4 months post op and lost 45 kgs (about 100 pounds). I'm just never hungry. I need to remind myself to eat. It's not like dieting, it's like having a reset and starting again.

Good luck!

It is completely normal to have those thoughts. Everyone is different I am now 3 months post op and i have lost only 40lb and I am very happy with that. However, I am always hungry yet can't satisfy that hunger eventually, you get use to it. It is hard but it gets better when you see the weight coming off. Remember that everyone's body is different everyone's surgeon is different. Someone else's experience might not be yours. My cousin did the sleeve as well and she can't eat certain foods. I on the other hand can eat everything but in small amounts. Good luck and this is a great step your taking. Just remember to go off your doctors orders and learn to eat again based of what your body takes and adjusts too.

I felt just like this and had similar stats (was 247 when I started). I didn’t even really commit fully to the pre op/6 month diet. But I went back every month even if I hadn’t lost, mostly because I didn’t want to start over. Once my surgery approval came in, a month prior, it got a lot more real and I got serious. I started the plan with some rigor, cut out all sugar and alcohol, etc., and lost around 15 lbs pre-surgery. I’ve been a slowish-loser post-op but have been compliant, careful, diligent and have not gone back to my bad habits, and exercise 5x week and enjoy it. Am down almost 80 lbs, at around a .5 lb/week pace now. The surgery won’t “work” on its own but it’s a huge opportunity to change your life, and the weight loss is an awesome motivator to keep going. Good luck to you!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
