What do I focus on?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 12/13/17 and I'm having a hard time not feeling overwhelmed by all the things I need to do everyday. I know I need to get 60oz of Water and 70g of Protein but should I focus on sugar and carbs too? I just need reassurance that I don't have to have everything perfect 4 days post op.

It’s new so that is why it seems so overwhelming. You’re not eating real food, so just concentrate on your Protein Drinks and your Water. No carbs to worry about now. Eventually you will get to puréed or easy foods, worry then. Just keep up with your Protein and walking and resting. Have water ever chance you can, but I never got the required oz in, still never have, and water is my favorite drink. I do the best I can.

If you picked Protein powders that are less than 4g of sugar per serving, and you're not consuming liquids with calories (sugars) in them, don't fight that battle yet. Take your Vitamins, drink your water/fluids, drink your protein drinks.

My program allows thinned down yogurt from the start. Don't use yogurt that has crap in it or use that low carb one (hate the texture of it). I just use my HEB Greek yogurt and thin it down with Fairlife zero fat milk.

I would just worry about Protein, Water and Vitamins. That is it. In a few weeks, you can decide whether you want to go low carb, low fat, etc.

I would suggest that you update your profile to show that you are in fact post-op, and maybe add in your stats. It will help others to see where you are just in case you have need for help in the future.

Congratulations on getting through the 1st major milestone in this process, and I wish you the best in the next phase of your journey.

#1....getting enough fluids! Biggest reason for emergency room visits post surgery = dehydration. Get your fluids in.

#2....protein goal. This protects your heart and muscles from wasting.

This is enough to worry about for the first week.

Second week...start working on getting more calories in each day.

#3....stay active. Get up and walk a couple of times every hour:)

When I was sleeved, I had a week by week plan until I was fully on solid foods. Did your surgical office provide this for you?

I will do that! I just got the app and it doesn't have a way to edit my profile that I've found. When I am on my desktop again I will fix it! Thank you!

Yes they did but it just says what to eat not anything about what limits I should have on macros. IMG_1292.JPG

My plan does not personally require super low carb and I don't count fat at all. I avoid low-fat products at the encouragement of my NUT because she said fat is good for body functions and with my intake being so low fat wasn't a big concern. I didn't count carbs until I began soft solids and prior to 6 months I was below 50 grams a day and now post 6 months I keep my carbs between 50-100 grams.

Give yourself a list of staple Protein foods and if you have a rough idea of those things then you won't even need to stress and count carbs and sugars.

Keep it as unprocessed as possible.
Keep cheeses, deli meats, Beans, chicken, steak, shrimp, Jerky, Pork rinds etc on hand, some of your fav veggies, greek yogurt, approved Protein Shakes. Then get creative with your meal prep.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
