Should I go tighter?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I'm scheduled for my next fill this Thursday. My last was August 31. Since then, I've lost about 6 pounds. I do have 'good restriction' right now, but I still think I could eat more than 1 cup at a time (I actually HAVE). I'm really, really concerned whether or not to get this next fill. I mean, I'm now at the point where I'm not sure how to gauge my restriction. To me, its enough to stop me from over eating. That is the point. But I still think it could be tweaked a bit to restrict me down to that 1/4 - 1/2 cup then saiety. I haven't had many stuck episodes, just one PB. I'm a slow looser. I guess I'm terrified of being over filled. As it is, my band ALWAYS talks to me when I'm eating; a gurgling. I thought it was reflex at first...but I don't have any burning, etc.

Any opinions?:help:

Hi Sherilynn, glad to hear from you. I understand exactly how you are feeling. There is a fine line in the sand when it comes to good restriction. In my opinion and my doctor's opinion, 1 cup of food is too much. With good restriction you should only be able to consume 1/4 cup of food. I always start my day with a Protein Shake to make sure I get my 60 grams in. One example of good restriction is recently I went from 3.2 to 2.9 ccs and I've gained 3 lbs since I did that. I am so use to eating only 1/4 cup of food I guess my body got use to it. You may only need .2ccs or just a slight fill. Keep that in mind as well. Good luck with your fill. There is nothing like feeling satisfied. Julie

I think you might need a slight fill. I wouldn't go too extreme, though. If you can still lose weight on a larger amount of food, why shouldn't you stay at that restriction?

Maybe a VERY tiny one? If you're not happy with how you're losing that is, if you are then I wouldnt touch it.

I have to disagree vehemently that with good restriction you should only be able to eat 1/4 cup of food. That's such a blanket generalisation and just not true.

You should only have to eat 1/4 cup of food if you're not losing anything eating more than that. If you can lose eating more then you should, because you'll be better nourished that way. And if you have the option of moving more and thus being able to eat more, its a healthier option to take.

Good restriction is where you are losing well eating a healthy diet, nothing more. Its as individual as every other thing about you and it is NOT about only eating 1/4 cup of food as if we're all programmed exactly the same.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'm just so filled now (I have the large band, with 10.2 cc in it already) that I'm afraid if I add more I'll be closed up. But from what I'm understanding, it's now that I don't get so much a fill, as I do a 'tweak' to my current fill. Yes, something like .2, a teeeny tiny amount could do the trick. I think I'd love to eat only 1/4 cup at a time. But as stated; I may not be programmed that way. We shall see...

So Yes, I've decided to go forward with it tomorrow.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
