Checking In- Sleeved in Dec 2014

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just wanted to check in... I haven't been on Bariatric Pal for quite some time! This site was my go-to place for information and support right after my surgery, and then I tried to pay it forward for a year or so after that, but I haven't come here to see what's happening lately. Anyways, I've done pretty well... Maintained my weight loss (101 lbs) until in the last 4 months when I have gained 10 pounds without changing much in my diet (An extra trip or two to Starbucks probably) :/ I think maybe it has to do with my activity level. I took a new job that has me sitting A LOT more. I need to get back on track before things get out of hand. Thinking of doing the 5 Day Pouch Reset.. Has anyone tried that? How are others doing who are 3-4 years out? Happy Holidays!

I’m 4 years and 3 days out and in a similar situation. I lost about 150 and am about 14 pounds above my lowest weight.

What baffles me is that I continue to weigh and log all food and my calories/carbs haven’t increased and my level of exercise is the same.

Working out 6 days/week and keeping calories at or below 1900.

I’d be happy even losing 6 pounds. I hate that my pants are slightly tight. Makes me mad even typing that...

Hi guys!
I am 3 years out on 12/2/17. This has been the hardest year so far. I have lost my will order over emotional eating and have put in 15 lbs over the year.
As far as the pouch reset? I’m not sold on that.

I hit 6 year mark in December - things got MUCH harder for me about 3 or so years out. I had to really work hard to not regain, but over the last 1-2 years have put a few pounds back on.

Like many of you have found, eating about the same - yet regain. Maybe some of it is natural aging process, maybe I don't estimate my intake as well - I don't know.

I tried ALL the techniques that I have used (5:2, tracking, low carb etc etc) and could not make progress. What I have done is joined a gym with a metabolism boosting program - it is really quite different than anything else I have done post sleeve. I get to eat good quantities of food, and getting healthier. The weight loss is painfully slow, but I have turned the tide - I didn't lose any more over the month of December, but I held my own.

Anyway, this seems like a lifelong thing....

Just seen your post. I hope you are still around. Just checking in to see how you are doing.

I'm in the same situation. 3rd year and my weight went up 15/20 pounds. I came back to the site for support and ideas of things to try.

I've been battling the same 10 pounds up and down for a while. All the tried and true ways stopped working. I gain quickly if I eat off plan for a few days. that same small gain will take me months to get off.

I had to dial my diet in to what works for me. I'm ten pounds down. Having this site keeps me more focused and brought back some discipline.

Hi All,

I understand. I've got an extra 15 I'd like to be rid of. But please... BIG picture!! I've got 15, not 115!! Do NOT beat yourselves up!! I think that only leads to depression and more weight gain.

Take some small steps. And, maybe recognize that if it doesn't change, you are STILL so much better off!!

:D

Just wanted to chime in...I am 4 years out right now. I did great for the first 2 years, then had some regain. for the past 10 months I FOUGHT that regain. I searched online, I bought the 'reset' book, tried to print all sorts of meal plans, etc. I never was honest with myself to admit that my eating/drinking was completely out of control.

Then last fall, I had some sobering medical news. One of the things that I initially had surgery to combat was reappearing. And, the doctor was moderately concerned. That was ALL it took. My brain kicked in, and I was on fire.

I went strict Keto (doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me) and lost all of my regain (except about 7 lbs right now), losing about 50 lbs in 5 months. I have rejoined a gym. My medical thing has resolved.

I have been tinkering with all of the LCHF info, intermittent fasting, and reading lots of randomized control trials about metabolic disease, insulin resistance, etc.

I had to get out of my own head and just let auto pilot take over. I KNOW what to do. we all know what to do. For me, true Keto works great and I'm feeling good. Another 30 lbs and I will be at my TRUE goal and will pursue plastics.

It TOTALLY is do-able, even this far out, to get control and get back on track.

I had the VSG in August of 2015, reached my initial goal precisely one year later, and then maintained that for a year. I was very active traveling last summer and through the fall, and in December 2017 I hit the lowest weight I've been since the 8th grade. I was overjoyed. This year I've gained 11 pounds. :( It's been very frustrating and was bewildering at first. I take Metformin for PCOS and Wellbutrin due to depression regarding fertility issues, and both medications typically cause weight loss. Both can actually cause weight gain, though. I hadn't realized that when my endocrinologist increased my Metformin dosage in January. I soon became frequently ravenous, with a tremendous surge in appetite and shakiness coming on rapidly. I thought I needed to just acclimate to the medicine and so I stuck with it, but the hunger and shaking haven't abated. When I saw him again in April and mentioned the weight gain and hunger, he was nonchalant, absolutely unsurprised by it, saying that it can cause hypoglycemia and excessive hunger. He also said that Wellbutrin can cause weight gain in some people. Yet, when I asked him about both medications prior to taking them he said that I wouldn't gain weight, so.....

He didn't seem to think the weight gain was a reason to be concerned because I'm still at a healthy BMI, but for me it's worrisome because it can escalate. I don't want to stop either medication because they have been helpful in other regards.

I would definitely encourage anyone who is experiencing weight gain to not make the mistake I did by failing to properly and thoroughly read about all side effects of medications. Reading patient reviews carefully has also been helpful.

Nothing is perfect... it just isn’t.
I’m so happy to have many long termers.... some with fills; some not.
I’m thrilled that many of us seem to sticking with it...

and ya. I want to lose 10 more pounds But I’m ok and can navigate this world
And not worry out getting up in a room ...not feeling fat. Ok. 11 years here I come

Three years out and struggling bad! In the last year I’ve gained 25 pounds. I’m not exercising as often and snacking is terrible. My motivation has dwindled and I’m not sure what to do.

Aside from pouch reset and ‘back to basics’, what has worked? Specific examples over sayings are appreciated. Thank you.

Hey ya'll. SO. I got down to 199 for the weigh in but gained it all back right after. I have to do another month of weight management. They switched out the nutritionists at the last second and she said she doesn't pass anyone unless they have 5 veggies a week. I'm starting metformin and Farxiga today. Doc found a little bit of blood in my urine but wasn't too concerned. I'm trying not to freak myself out either. Depression is a little more intense than usual. I'm all over the damn place.

3/19 - It wasn't a bad day I stayed up quite a bit much of the day. Have to focus on walking more before it gets too hot to walk outside at all.   Pain was less, but insomnia has kicked in the last two nights
